I just bought a RCBS swager for a bunch of FC 223 cases. When i swage them, i have a hard time useing my Sinclair primer pocket uniformer. It seems like the pockets are too tight after swaging them. What am i doing wrong? I tried adjusting the length of the rod but it didnt seem to help.

Is this brass going to be used for High Power competition? If not, I would dispense with the primer pocket uniformer, unless you just have lots of time you want to spend doing that. For general plinking and informal target practice, I've never found it necessary to uniform primer pockets, as long as the primers will seat properly. I prefer to seat them to .004" below flush.

When I was shooting High Power with an M1A NM, I would uniform the primer pockets on my .308 brass, but to tell you the truth, I could never tell any difference, but it did make me feel better for the matches.

Hope this helps.

Hey Fred. I just punch paper and p-dogs. I will take your suggestion and try it. I've never had as much trouble with ANY brass as i'm having with these FC cases.

The FEDS are OK with me..

OleBuck, I'm with Fred. If they seat well-slightly below flush, go with it. But to tell you what, FC+Federal brass is usually my "Go to" brass across my cartridge loading.

Yea Billybob, I like the FC brass i've been useing. I lost count on how many times i've reloaded the ones i'm shooting now. Mine are stamped

FC 223rem (no space)
Fc 223 rem (space between 223 and rem)
FC 07
The FC 07 should be the only ones military, right? Or crimped primers i mean.

Use a little case lube on the primer pockets and it will "Go" much easier when swaging them.

Seems like i should be able to uniform the 223rem and the 223 rem headstamps but even before swaging them, i couldnt get the uniformer to go in on a lot of them. hmm

I'm pretty sure the RCBS swage inst. say to back the rod all the way out, and lock down the lock nut. Adjust the die body up/down until the desired swage is made to pocket. I think if you move the rod down from the top of the die that you will take a chance of bending the rod??

The rod is there to support the case from the inside during the swaging process, as there is no other way to support it.

You need to use cases from the same lot so the internal dimensions are the same, then adjust the rod to support the case while swaging the pocket.

Mixed headstamps with different case web thickness won't work so hot, and you probably will bend the rod.

The case lube helped a bunch. I called Dillon today. Had to sell a truck load of wheat but the super swager is on it's way now that I have the RCBS working. Oh well, now I can compare the two.

I havent seen the RCBS swage tool yet . I just got a catalog from them and I dont recall seeing them in their .Is it like Dillons or is it something that goes in a press ? I just bought a Dillon SS . I did notice that different headstamps need their own adjustment . Even after I swage the brass sometimes the primers still dont seat with ease , but , it makes me think that the primers wont come out either .

Ouch Bruno! I dont like what i just read. The RCBS goes in a press just like a regular die. I might have one for sale in a while. :)

I think with a swaging press that sometimes all of the crimp ring doesnt disappear . That is what I think causes the primer to seat a little stiff sometimes . I have tried rotating the case 180deg when swaging and running the swage rod in each pocket twice . That technique makes the primer pocket feel too loose sometimes . I am about 99% sure that I have the super swage set up right . I swaged about 500 cases with it and only about 2-3 cases wouldnt take the primer w/o re swaging .

Dillon swage

Gents, plan on mounting that tool on the edge of your bench so the handle goes all the way down;:banghead:eek:therwise, you will not be swaging just cussin..:fire:

I have the Dillon SS and I like it a lot. However, it doesn't remove all of the crimp ring and due to thickness differences in the case heads, it doesn't make repriming a lot easier for some brands of cases. Just a heads-up. It is a great machine, but it isn't perfect and it won't make your life all peaches and cream.

Does that mean that the Dillon SS is for sale-say-for 1/2 a truck load of wheat??
It might be. Let me check the price of wheat 1st.

Its starting to sound like i might have messed up by ordering the Dillon. Its sometimes kind of tricky getting the case to line up with the swaging rod in the RCBS. Surely its easier with the Dollon.
