Somewhat new to AR’s but not to firearms and reloading. I’m considering swapping out my dissipaters collapsible Magpul AR-15 Mil-Spec CTR Carbine Stock with a BROWNELLS M16A1 retro Buttstock Assembly. Any thoughts on what buffer replacement would be needed, as well as what tools would be helpful to do this? I have watched the BROWNELLS installation video, and doesn’t look like a quick and easy install, and am also unsure what buffer and or other parts I will need to ensure readability

Thanks

Shouldn't take you 30 minutes.

A standard rifle buffer tube.
Buffer tube wrench is pretty much all you'll need.
It's fairly easy, just be careful when you remove the plate holding the detent spring in. They like to fly.

With an A1, you dont want the A2 spacer (shouldnt be one with an A1 stock) on the buffer tube, and you want an A1 screw (top screw with a hole in it). The A2 screw is longer, and If you use it, youll go nuts with intermittent and unexplained function issues. Ask me how I know. :)

+1 on the A1. The A2 might be an issue IF you don't buy a kit. I've bout an A2 screw listed as so, but was short. Just something to be aware of? Standard file weight buffer is sufficient and spring also.

Auto correct still requires proofreading, Gents.

I was going to do a similar swap a few years back. The AR ‘smiths at my LGS suggested buying a kit for the change because there were easy errors to make when buying individual parts.

I did the exact same recently. Swapped out a magpul collapsible stock for an A1 fixed stock.
As others have said, buy a kit. Buying parts individually just costs more and potentially creates compatibility issues.
Actual install was easy, make sure to keep the detent spring under control though.
Took about 15 minutes and required a buffer tube wrench.

Yes it does require proofreading!!!!!

For the OP:

If you'r rifle currently has the carbine buffer tube then you will need a standard AR15 rifle buffer tube, rifle buffer and rifle buffer spring. Make sure to get the correct stock screw for A1 stock. As mentioned the A1 stock screw is shorter. Also as mentioned, you will not use the stock spacer with an A1 stick either.

It is a simple job to swap stocks and buffer tubes out with the proper wrenches. The other thing to watch for is not to loose the rear take down pin spring and detent when removing the buffer tube (carbine) or stock (A1/2). Also make sure the spring does not get bent when reinstalling everything.
