I had a weird dream the other night that I was at my indoor swimming pool and some gunman came in demanding everyone stay where they are and just started randomly shooting people while they were helpless in the pool trying to get out as fast as possible, rather random and awkward.

I would think being in a swimming pool would leave one rather vulnerable, what does one do when they take a swim at the beach or the swimming pool? Surely it would be hard to conceal a gun in your trunks and i'm sure it wouldn't be a good idea to take it in water?

Yea your screwed!

Wrap your sidearm up in a towel or in whatever bag/picnic basket you take and keep it with your other stuff.

Actually in the pool itself? Ziplock baggies, don't even need to take the sidearm out, just shoot right through it! Though I think taking a pistol, putting in a ziplock bag, and stuffing the bag down your swim trunks might be bordering on the paranoia side.

When we're swimming in the back yard I sandwich a pistol between a couple of towels at the edge of the pool. Just in case. ;)

I heard the owner of Smart Carry on Guntalk today and he said he carried his full size 1911 in swim trunks at the beach recently w/o a hitch. 'course he didn't go in the water, but he proved that it is possible *to carry at the beach* without drawing attention to one's self.

I been reading up on my handgun, the USP apparently can be taken underwater and I guess it'll be ok as German divers used it successfully, but still not sure if it's a good idea.

Care to elaborate on that?

I was recently wondering the same thing. Went canoing & swimming in a nearby lake (can't stand anyplace with a lifeguard) and was wondering about how to CCW a Glock 17 (has the "marine cups" installed), and what issues may be.

I have read of undercover cops being armed with small .22 , .25 and .32 pistols in plastic bags taped to them or fastened inside baggy surfer bathing suits. It is in the front and most crooks are not going to pat down someones privates. Also if it is not likely to be a police issue firearm, it may be excused by the other bad guys as a bad guy needing to be armed. It is not much gun but if you go bigger you might attract the ladies or members of the community with alternate lifestyles..

If your pool is big..

I have Connections with the US Coast Guard. We can put a cutter in your pool with a 26mm and a 50 cal if you pay for the fuel.:D

Would it be safe to take a gun in water? I mean I figure with something like a USP or a Glock it should work fine drawing and firing (as long as it's out of the water). Of course the water would probably gunk up the lube but I guess you could air dry it with canned air?

Hire a guard to stand by the pool. If you're at the beach w/ friends, go in the water in shifts so that others stay behind to stand watch over the others.
That or don't subject yourself w/ such risky exposure

Have pockets sewn into your trunks, stuff it with a ceramic plate. When the terrorist attacks, take off your trunks and shield yourself and your wife while she puts together the high powered rifle from pieces stuffed in her bikini top and bottom.

In all seriousness, this is kind of a joke topic, but at no fault of the OP. Its ridiculously specific only because he has a detailed dream about it. He didnt dream it up while thinking about his personal safety. i think. :p

Whatever other direction this thread goes, I personally would *not* leave a loaded pistol unattended in my stuff at a public pool or beach.

+1

If your going to an unsavory beach or pool and you feel the need to carry a gun, get a pocket gun in a waterproof container like a ziplock bag (freezer bags are better). Push all the air out of the bag, if not it will want to float. Keep it in the pocket of your swim trunks that has a zipper or velcro seal, otherwise you will lose it.

Honestly a good pocket folding knife would be better. It does not need a bag, would not have issues firing if it gets wet, and if it somehow falls out of your trunks, it will not cause mass panic, and strange looks as a pocket gun in a bag would:D .

Lonestar's got my ideas on the subject. Think you can seal the primers with something.... nail polish, I think it was. I've carried my keys in swim trunks thataway... don't want the things to rust over, or some bratty kid to run off with the towel, throwing the keys to the four winds.

Yeah I mean it's an unlikely scenario, I was just curious because I had a dream about it and sure seemed pretty real. Some of the people ask where one feels most vulnerable, I guess the pool would be mine heh.
