What can anyone tell me about Swiss powder?

I've been using some French FFG (25 grains) in my 1858 because I just can't find any FFFG but now I have found a suplier for Swiss powder, I have orderd some Swiss no.2 (supposed to be FFFG) had anyone used that here?
I've tried to do a bit of searching and am I right in saying it 'might' be a little cleaner and that it is more dense that most powders so you need a lower charge (a bit like 777) ?

Any info welcome :D

Marty,
I use Swiss in my '73 Winchester 44 WCF (44-40). I have found that it takes about 10% less by weight of Swiss FFG to = the velocity of Goex FFG / Schuetzen (36 grs vs 40 grs).

My lot of Swiss weighs about 8% more by volume than Goex FFG.

Have fun!

It is supposed to be the most consistent true blackmpowder. Like stated above it is also supposed to be 10% stronger. I use 3f in my 1858 and 1851s. I use the 4f in my NAA Super Companion. Seems to work very well and is easier to clean than pirodex P.

I've been shooting Swiss for a decade now. It's about 10% more efficient than Goex, but I haven't seen the ballistic magic. It does chronograph more consistently than other powders. As a pistol shooter, that part matters less to me than to a rifle shooter. But as a USIMLT member, I have to be ready to shoot the powders available overseas...which is usually Swiss.

I have used Swiss FFFg for flintlock (prime and charge) and caplocks. I have not encountered a cleaner burning, more consistent powder.

Swiss is first class black powder, I really like it in BPCR.
I don't think it will make a lot of difference in a cap and ball revolver but if it is all you can get, it will do very well.

I got hold of some Swiss 2f a while back.
Man, that stuff is nice!
Still will probably stay with Goex for my black powder shooting because of the cost.

I use both Swiss and Goex. The Swiss is slightly more dense and it makes it easier to load say 40gr in a 45 Colt if you desire. As far as cleaner, I don't see any appreciable difference.

If you are presently shooting Pyrodex, ANY Black Powder will shoot cleaner than Pyrodex.

That's my opinion, I could be wrong.

In know two fellows that swear by the Swiss. One shoots precision black powder at long range 200+ yards, so consistant MV is very important to him. The other shoots LOTS of CAS, black powder cartridges, and the cleaner the better as the day goes on. The latter deosn't like cleaner shooting BP substitutes..., never said why. I have tried Swiss, and it seems a bit cleaner, but...,

I prefer GOEX. I prefer to support the manufacturer inside the Continental US, as if something happens regarding import regulations, OR if there is something like a general transport strike throughout Europe (their economies suck worse than ours, being more Socialistic) then you won't be getting Swiss. So if GOEX goes out of business from lack of trade among Americans, and then a general strike happens..., enjoy what you have stashed.

Swiss has the reputation of being the only BP that will enable a well regulated load in a double barreled BP cartridge rifle.
