Synthetic on a Garand

Isn't that an Oleg pic? I've seen that one on THR many years ago. I'll probably never do that to my Garand, but I like the message.

Isn't that an Oleg pic

that IS Oleg, speaking about how he wound up with his Tanker garand.

as i understand it, it'd been chopped, stocked in synthetic, and the T-37 Flash suppressor installed at the time he bought it.

I have a couple of Garands and put one of my woodless Danes in a synthetic stock. I would be more that glad to tell someone what I think of their opinion if they feel the need to give it.

It is his rifle let him do with it as he pleases. FWIW, Oleg didn't modify anything...he bought it that way.

Everyone has their own style when it comes to firearms, me, well Im the kind of idiot that tries to figure out how to put a nice set of cocobolo's on a glock:neener:

That's a good one.:D

The Midway flyer came in a couple of days ago and the Ramline M1 stocks are on sale for $49.99 again. I'm half a mind to pick on up regardless of the fact that CMP is not taking orders for Garands of any designation at this time. They do expect more and if I can get a woodless Dane RG later this year, I'll put it in a synthetic stock and enjoy it.

How dare someone do something to something they own!

Yeah. I have this Nat'l Ord. '03A3 build... it's basically that I bought an '03A3 parts kit and it shoots. Anyway, since it's not a gov't receiver I'm not goofin' with history. So, in the next month or so, I intend to mount a Lyman #57 with target knobs. Oh, I'm such a terrible person.:D

I put a synthetic stock on my Garand with a .308 barrel. Now when I go to the range I don't have to worry about scratching my beautiful wood stock. I also have a scope base mounted on it and a red dot sight. These are necessary so I can see to align the barrel with the center of the target. Works for me and I like it.

I like that synthetic stock on a Garand.

I know wood on guns is durable -- OK, so it is. But I like guns to be made of metal and "plastic." (Quoted just because modern synthetics are nothing like the stuff that comes wrapped around frozen chicken.)

One day, I'm sure to buy a wood-stocked gun (SKS? Mosin? Perhaps even a "real" Garand, not that I have any Garand at all right now), but I'll keep it in a nice termite-proof safe ;)

that's just wrong . nice ! but oh so wrong . next thing will be the folding m1 stock in desert tan . hey , that might , uh , never mind .

It's like putting a set of spinners on a 65 Corvette. At some level it may look nice, but its still just plain wrong to do!

Actually, after having seen some M-14's with different camo pattern stocks, and considering that the Italians had folding stocks for their BM-59's, that desert tan folder for the M1 don't sound like a bad idea. I just wouldn't personally make any other modifications. I like the issue sights... and the issue barrel length too for that matter... but now, a well done T-26 build can be real cool too and from what I've heard, they're fun and handy.

I think Oleg should be banned for that. There is no statute of limitations for something so blasphemous.

:neener::what::neener:

Oleg didn't do that to the Garand.

And synthetic is perfectly acceptable, especially for working guns. My 870 has synthetic furniture that does well in truck gun use.

And, as long as you are not making permanent changes, it ain't bubba'ing.

Oleg can pick up a nice wooden stock anytime he likes. He might even have already done so...

true battlefield ruggedness

Had McMillan been around in the in the WWII era, i'm sure that they and many other companies would have been awarded govt contracts to churn out synthetic stocks.
