T/C Classic 22 what can you tell me about it? Do they still make it what are your experiences with it good little 22 IMHO my friend has one and I like it a lot

My buddy has one. It is well made, has a good trigger, and is quite accurate for a semi.....I, believe they are, no longer made.

T/C is completely out of the .22 business. S&W owns the brand and they absorbed all their .22 technology and added it to their weapons or that's what they claim.

The Classic is a fine rifle though. I was very disappointed to see them end production of them. I nearly traded for one a while back. They are very accurate semi-auto rifles. They were considered to be about the most accurate semi-auto .22 you could buy off the shelf. Of course the 10/22 can be made into a much more accurate rifle but it costs some money to do that. Those Classics were never a cheap rifle BTW. They were considered top of the line at one point in days gone by at least in my area anyway. We didn't see too many European rimfires in those days and the old standards had gone out of production (like the 40X).

I have one. Paid about $400 for it used, but in near NIB shape about 2 years ago. Put a Williams rear peep on it and you couldn't buy it from me for 2x what I paid. It's my if I could only have one .22. That thing is scary accurate.

Unfortunately, I tried to get some spare parts from T/C some time ago and they have none, nor could they point me to any. Mags are like hens teeth too.

Also, beware of the extractor chipping the chamber. Some of the earlier models had this issue, it requires careful reshaping of the extractor to prevent it contacting the chamber in the extractor groove. I did it with some 400-600 grit sandpaper, a piece of glass and a lot of test-fitting. If the chamber does chip, S&W won't fix the rifle. They just replace it with an M&P15-22. Not an even trade to my mind.

Another fan/owner here. Very well made, very accurate out of the box. Omnivorous as well - even CCI Quiets reliably cycle mine. You do want to pay attention to the possibility of the chipping issue - see "Classic Extractor Mod" thread on Rimfire Central. Not difficult, just a little time consuming. Just be aware that it's prevention, not repair.

I believe I have 2 maybe 3 mags still in the package----bought them in anticipation in getting a rifle but never did.

Maybe we can work something out.

In addition to the chamber chipping issue, the rifles had some issues with poor quality magazines that had vtoo soft feed lips.
If you have good magazines treasure them.
T/C never had the opportunity to really debug this rifle before S&W absorbed them.

T/C recalled the .22 Classic and stopped production a few years ago because of a problem with the extracter hitting the chamber. Since they no longer made a .22 auto, they gave owners pretty much a free choice of their catalog, except for a few models.I traded my 15 y.o. Classic for a N.I.B. Encore rifle in 7mm/08. Don't know if T/C-S&W is stll offering this exchange or not.

Pity really.
The T/C Classic was in same league as the Weatherby and H&K semi auto .22s if they had worked all the bugs out.

I had one. Bought it new on a whim and slid it under the bed in its box. A few years later I came across it and wondered why I hadn't been shooting it. Took it to the range and enjoyed some spectacular off-hand accuracy...for about 100 rounds. Then BANG, the stock split through the grip and the magazine flew out. Smoke came from areas that shouldn't have smoked. Looked like an OOB discharge. Can't remember anything about the cartridge case (Remington Thunderbolt or Golden Bullet, can't remember which). Yes, I had cleaned the gun before the trip to the range.

Called TC, they said to send it back. They called a few weeks later, said they were keeping the gun and taking all the .22s off the market. Then said I could have my choice of any other current production TC. Ended up with a stainless Encore 209x50...which has not been as much fun as that little .22 was.

Moral of the story? If you get one, shoot good ammo in it.

Truth. I put mine through an Appleseed. No cleaning except for a boresnake after Day One. I fed it nothing but CCI Mini-Mags and did not have a single problem. Made Rifleman too.

There's a reason I don't buy Remington .22 ammo....

There is in my opinion generalizations being made on this subject that I can't ascertain as to the validity there of to the point of being misinformation.

You generalizations like the T/C in question is a good rifle? Trust me, it's true.
