T/C Omega loading problem

I bought my wife one of the Omega packs (rifle, bore cleaner, bullets with sabots, etc) for Christmas. We shot it today and the black sabot bullets included in the pack were extremely difficult to load. My wife couldn't start one and I had much difficulty getting one seated even for the first shot from a new barrel. The package stated these were "easy load" which was certainly not true. My wife is no weakling as she's hunted for over 10 years and drags out her own deer, hoists them up for field dressing, hauls them out herself, etc.

My wife called T/C who told her these sabots could be tight. T/C said we could send it back and they could check it but implied that she just wasn't up to using a black powder rife. Needless to say, we were not impressed with the customer service at T/C. Has anyone else had to put extreme effort forth to seat these black sabot bullets? We tried another brand of bullet/sabot she'd used in a Tradition with no problem seating but she was unable to start it in this Omega.

T/C said try their two petal sabot. My wife has researched these and found other people who think these are unsatisfactory due to low velocity, no expansion, no blood trail, etc. Has anyone tried these style sabots?

What your wife experienced is a common problem with TC Omegas. They seem to have among the tightest bore dimensions of any BP rifle on the market.
What other folks have done is to use some JB Bore Paste and run that about 100 strokes up and down the bore in an even manner. Repeat using that method to break in the bore just enough to ease the loading problem.
But first you may also want to try either the TC EZ Glide sabots or the MMP 3Petal-EZ sabots. The TC EZ Glides are also available in bulk packs.

Or try both the bore paste and the EZ loading sabots if necessary.
If you don't want to do one or the other, then return the gun to TC.
But that's usually what is needed to be done, and you're not the first person that has needed to do it and won't be the last.
The TC Triumph and other TC models don't seem to have that same problem right out of the box as the Omega's do.
Some folks who either don't know enough to use the bore paste on it or who aren't willing to, frequently look to sell their Omega for another gun.

Try Lee Minnie balls. My bore used to be tight before it got worn in a little, but Minnie balls were easy to load from the beginning and still are. Not to mention they deliver superb energy and scrape the fouling when you shoot them due to the forward facing grooves. Under 80 grains of FFG they'll knock the hell out of just about anything!

My hunting Buddy and I have identical Omegas and the bore in his rifle seems tighter than the bore in my rifle.
I use Pyrodex pellets exclusively and have lately started using the Superglide sabots noting no decrease in accuracy.
I think it helps to swab the bore about every 2or3 shots and at the range I use the CVA Barrel Blaster patches followed by a dry patch of course.

my husband left this thread up for me to read and probly will be horrified that i post on it, but i got something to say...i don't find it odd to expect to be able to use a gun new out of the box using the sabots/bullets that came with it without spending money and time to try and fix a problem....and after the jerk i talked with in their customer relations, i was more than willing to have them take their gun back...however, when i called back to lodge a complaint about the handling of my call, i was informed that MANY times the bore is machined wrong...they apologized for the idiot i talked to initially and assured me they would change the barrel out...think i'll let them bear the expense of trying to fix this problem instead of me or my husband...i do thank the courteous responders on this thread

I also thank you for your helpful suggestions. Before I posted my question we'd ordered some of the T/C EZ glide sabots to try. We'll try those first and if there's still a problem we'll send the rifle back to get a spec barrel. Thanks again.
