I'm looking for the most accurate rifle I can get for say, under $500.
I like the 22LR from an economical stand point, but Ive always wanted a 17HMR.
The rifle will be used for Informal bench shooting and hunting, but mostly so I can practice shrinking my groups without the noise and expense of firing my .223.:D

Savage 17 HMR the only thing I ever shot that groups tighter then my 6.5x55, at 50yd you had to look REALLY close to see that all three bullets went through that hole! Doing that once is remarkable, doing it over and over all day is unreal.

^Now that is what Im talkin about!^

That gun was stolen back in 2010, I am not going to lie I cried like a baby. Favorite rimfire ever, trying to find a new one with the accutrigger.

Can't beat a Marlin 795 or 60 for dirt cheap 22lr accuracy....and I mean dirt cheap.

I have a bunch of nice .22's. The most accurate one is the Savage MkIIBTV. Running a very close second is my CZ 453 American. Both are under $500 so far. The 453 is sometimes slightly over that price but I'd say you can still find one for under $500. Lots of people will say the 452 or the 455 are just as good. They would be wrong IMO. The trigger on the 453 is much, much better and no amount of tweaking the 452 trigger will change that. There are a limited number of adjusts to make on a 452 trigger. The 453 allows tweaking without modifications that can never be done with a 452.

If I had to buy just one right now it would be the Savage though. It's a lot cheaper and it shoots better or at least mine does. Plus I've had fewer problems with the Savage (which I know me saying that will tick off the CZ guys but it is what it is).

In an easy shooter gun a good grab is a .22 Savage MKII model. Great quality as a whole and quality/hardness of the wood stock really stands out on top.
