Tactical Advantage?

Ok I went to the range 2 weeks ago with my HD shotgun(870 smoothbore barrel 18" with the 7 shot tube green parkerized)and the bird gun of my youth(rem 11 87 28" barrel recently added a 9 + 1 tube extension full choke)

At 25 yds the hd gun got an avg of 4 of the 15 00 pellets on target(winchester 3" 00 buck) these were usually a stopping shot

the old bird gun using the same ammo full choke avg'd 10 pellets in about a 5" group at 25 yds.

Both shotguns threw slugs very straight at 25 yds.

not for nothing but I live in FL and the SHTF here evry year now I leave the bird shot at home and I take the buckshot with me when i go to my aunt's house for the hurricanes. Only a fool would walk out of their house with shotgun loaded w bird shot after some kind of natural or national emergency

For the purposes of academic discussion, let us assume that social order has broken down as in the New Orleans scenario. You live in a large town and have EXTREMELY poor relations with your neighbour a few doors away.... (etc)
I don't know; because I left the city as soon possible. By vehicle, horse, bicycle - or on foot with just what I could carry if necessary.

But tactical pertains to tactics; which is pre-planned and or deliberate action(s), etc - theoretical or actual.

So the answer to your question, without a known summary of the opponents planned or immediate action, is that neither has the tactical advantage. Since both are standing in the open within practical range of each other.

It's still a valid question. His tactic is to shoot me with his shotgun. My tactics are my response. If you're so certain you've already left the area, then imagine this encounter takes place on your way out. If you don't want to play blackjack then find another table.

Your response? :D

All I can say if that once this gentleman as you describe, has begun to cut loose on you with a 12 gauge - even a double 12 loaded with 7.5s - in the open at 30 yards. You are in deep trouble.

You don't have much in the way of choices. You can hit the ground and shoot back - or run away as fast as you can, zig-zagging as erratically as you can for the nearest cover. In the hope that none of his little shot pellets will reach anything vital, and that their combined tissue damage will not cause you to bleed out or die of infection at a later time. Or permanently blind you in one or both eyes.

On open ground I would have to have been asleep to let him get 30 yards away from me. But to attempt to answer your modified question ....

Given his known dipsosition toward me, I would have moved away from him on sight. As soon as I recognized him. Were an obvious pursuit attempted at that point - an armed man with a known disposition against me - I might fire the first shots right off, and be increasing distance if possible, or take a position behind cover (with an escape if possible) to block his further approach. I would then be able to gauge just how badly he wished to continue.

If we assume that your neighbour only has 2 3/4" shells loaded with 7.5 size birdshot in his shotgun, the distance between you two is 30 meters and the terrain is fairly open, who would have the tactical advantage?

Assmume that both of your are quite proficient with your firearms.

It's certainly possible to know your neighbor well enough to assume proficiency. But I can not imagine why a proficient shooter would only have #7 ½ birdshot at his disposal.:scrutiny: I might as well assume he will not shoot, or assume his gun will misfire. So my assumption is he has buck shot or slugs, and that puts me at a disadvantage.
