I want either of these two pistols can't decide. I want a pistol that I can get high-cap mags for. I hear good things about both, but alot of people say they do not like the grip on a glock. I would go to the gun store but the closest store does not have any glocks on hand and the next closest store is 150 miles away.:( None of my friends have glocks either. Please help me decide.

I'd make the trip or try to find another way to at least hold both. I don't like a few things about Glocks but others probably like some of those exact things.

Maybe you wont like either, it is kind of like shopping for a car without sitting in / driving it.

I really love the Glock 34, but if the XD9 Tactical is what's on hand and you like the feel of it, then go with what is available. I really can't imagine that the Tactical would feel much different from the XD9 I wrung out.

I'm in the "don't like the Glock feel" crowd. I've also found them to be loose and not very accurate. Still, some swear by them.

I like the XD much more than the Glock. I shoot USPSA and my first perfect stage was shot with an XD Tactical.

That having been said, I also own an M&P. It has really got my attention. It's a total tack driver and it feels natural in the hand. More so than any other firearm.

Earned or not, there is a lot of controversy about the Glock. Not as much about XD or M&P. Ya gotta ask yourself why?

Beware, Glock owners are VERY emotional about their guns. They don't appreciate anyone who doesn't think the sun rises and sets with their beloved Glock. Of course there are also a lot for great Glock owners who realize it might just be different strokes for different folks.

Even if you have to drive far, make a day of it. Try and shoot them all and decide which is best for you.

Day trip

I think I am going to the other gun store. I will take the day off for a little trip. I'm going to try to see if I can shoot all of them. Thanks alot for all the advise.

Nothing wrong with the Glock, but I really appreciate the tactile firing pin indicator and loaded chamber indicataor on my XD.

Have a G34 and an XD9 and XD9 Tac (a better comparison to the G34, IMO). For me, I don't mind the grip angle of the Glock (though I don't care for finger grooves) but much prefer the XD's trigger over the Glock's. XD9 Tac over the G34.

I’m not going to vote in the poll, as person-to-gun fit is so variable. But I have a Glock 34, and and XD45 “Tactical” (very similar to it’s 9mm brother), and I’ll give you my thoughts based upon my experience spanning several thousand round with each:

1) Hand Fit: I have smaller than average hands, and the G34 feels just a bit awkward and blocky to me. If you have larger hands, it might feel perfect. The XD fits me very well. As far as the much argued grip angle is concerned, I have shot both enough that muscle memory seems to put either on target equally well.

2) Trigger: I might be in the minority here, but I find the STOCK G34 trigger better than the XD. The Glock trigger, while “sproingy”, is reasonably light (too light for carry duty in my opinion) and consistent. My XD’s stock trigger was long and mushy with more overtravel. I’ve since had a trigger job performed on it, and it’s real nice (although not at all like a nice 1911 pull). I actually wish I hadn’t had such a light pull weight set (it’s under 3 lbs). It’s somewhat like a button-switch now.

3) Reliability: Both have been very reliable. My XD45 doesn’t feed semi-wadcutters well, probably wouldn't be a concern w/ the 9mm, but hasn’t ever had a problem with roundnose and HP’s. My G34 hasn’t been 100% with factory ammo, but I’m not sure that wasn’t the ammo’s fault. It’s last 4000 round or so, mostly my hand loads, have been flawless.

4) Sights: The G34 comes with adjustable sights, but they are very large, plastic, and the adjustment increments are pretty large. I think I preferred the fixed stock XD sights (although I have Dawson precision adjustable now) to the Glock’s.

5) Practical Accuracy: As I have an XD45 vs. an XD-9, I can’t vouch for the XD-9. But slow-fire unsupported at 25 yards, I tend to shoot significantly smaller groups with the XD, even before the trigger job. At 50 feet and closer, the difference is not as significant. At 10 yards I can see no difference in practical accuracy for the most part. For whatever reason, I am more “streakish” with the Glock - sometimes it’s one-hole city all rapid-fire-like and sometimes they’re flying out of the black while I‘m really concentrating. Can’t figure it out.

6) Features/Safety: For the most part a toss-up, although generally argued in the favor of the XD. I find the XD’s grip safety 100% unobtrusive, however. My XD’s loaded chamber indicator sticks open every couple of thousand rounds and requires removal and cleaning of the recess (easy enough). Both are very easy to field strip.

7) Finish: Glock all the way here. The finish isn’t pretty, but it’s hard to hurt.

If your set on a poly pistol, I don’t think you would go wrong with either (haven’t shot the M&P much).

I made this decision just last year. In general I like XDs better then Glocks, at the time I had two XDs and two Glocks. I went with the Glock 34 for one reason only and that is because you can buy 33rnd mags for it. Not that I use them very often, hardly ever, but I liked the fact that I could get them. Also Glock mags are everywhere and are cheap.

Jeridurine you don't even have a firing range anywhere near you that you could go to and handle if not try out both firearms and see for yourself???

My unbiased opinion...

I've shot an XD and I've shot Glocks...I ended up with:

A G35:

...and I've converted it to a G34:

The long slide models have excellent accuracy, slight recoil (especially for a .40S&W caliber) and reliability at it's best.

If you live near me, I'd let you try it out.

Good luck!

i would say go with the xd tactical. but that has to do with the fact that i am a sa and an xd loyalist, i have 2 xds and i love em. and i will buy more in the future.

I own both guns, the Glock 34 and XD Tac in 9mm. I was not overly impressed with the XD and keep it so other people can make up their own mind.

When I first shot the 34 I thought it was okay, but wasn't super exicted... Until I ran the AZ POST qualification course with it. Rather than shooting center mass I did a head shot qual just for fun... and only had one shot outside the ring (which is a small face shot).

I voted for the 34. Plus, Glocks are substantially easier to take apart and put aftermarket parts in (or replace other parts as needed).

For ME, I love my Glock 34. I feel like I fire this gun the best out of all of my pistols. I also have a Glock 17L, but haven't really played with that one much yet.... So for me, I would vote G34 in your poll, but you need to handle both and decide for yourself....

I voted for the G34. Im really up in the air though on this one as they both fit in my hand comfortably.

Good for you for heading to where you can handle a variety of different handguns to find out what points naturally for you and has a comfortable reach to the trigger.

My name is Mike and I'm a Glockaholic. I bought a G34 after shooting it and then I wanted a backup. Then I got a G35 and, yes, another G34. I shoot them at least as well as anything I've owned. By far, the least expensive quality 9mm you can have due to the fact that it's easy to maintain. Very accurate and reliable. Yes I admit my compulsion freely but it's by virtue of the fact that the gun has earned my respect and trust over thousands of rounds.

Both great guns. I travel a lot to shoot matches. I work on my own guns. XD's frustrated me when I attempted anything but field stripping for cleaning. Basic Glock repair and mantaince is easy and parts, if needed, are cheap and everywhere. FWIW

well I dont have an XD yet .... been thinking about getting that one next .... I have a Ruger GP100 nice wheel gun , I have an H&K USP .45 that I have had for 11 yrs now, also have a 21SF and a 33 .. and just got the FN Five SeveN ..

I have to agree with the post above.
17 rnds from Beretta and 20rnds available also. I myself just picked up a SA-XD 9mm Subcompact it can load 16 rnds. I was really up in the air between the XD and the PX4. The price of the XD is what made it the clincher, it was nearly $65 cheaper.
