I recently acquired a S&W Model 36 in trade, and I've got to say that I'm pretty pleased so far. I've noticed that it's a bit tough to find holsters for my J frame that are fitted to the gun rather than the "one size fits most" type of holsters. When I first got the gun I was carrying it in a Tagua belt holster designed for a Ruger SP101. It's not a bad fit, but it could be more comfortable - It takes 2 hands to unholster or reholster with that one, though and I wanted something better.
Enter the Talon J Frame IWB. I picked black leather, but it's available in brown as well. The clip is sturdy and fits my thick, wide belt nicely (Blackhawk 1.75" polymer lined gun belt). The mouth of the holster is reinforced with an extra layer of leather, but also with a steel band in between the layers to prevent the holster from losing its shape. The holster holds its shape very well, and is nicely fitted to the shape of my firearm. This is the first leather IWB revolver holster I've owned that allowed me to reholster my revolver one handed, and I'm very pleased with it. It's still taking me two hands to draw the pistol, but I'm confident that once I find that "sweet spot" where the holster likes to sit, and get it broken in properly, I'll have a much easier draw.
The smooth side of the leather is facing out, but the inside isn't overly rough. It's well finished and solidly constructed. There's only a single row of stitching at each edge instead of a double row, but I don't think it will be an issue considering the quality of the thread and leather. The edges of the holster seem a bit sharp at first, but they are quickly rounding off and smoothing themselves as I work the holster.
This is not the first time I've purchased a custom or semi-custom holster, but it's the first time I wasn't disappointed with the pricetag. ($50) I highly recommend Talon holsters to anyone looking for a comfortable concealed carry holster for their J-frame revolver.
