Taping the muzzle on a muzzle loader - foul weather

I haven’t taped my shotgun, but I don’t hunt waterfowl or big game with it, just small game, usually only in fair weather.

I always tape my rifle muzzle. It pops at the shot and has no effect on bullets, but keeps water and debris clear of the bore. I haven’t hunted with a muzzleloader in years, but if I start again, electrical tape will be used.

Just me but I have never done anything. I hunt with an old T/C Big Boar. Ohio's muzzle loader season was the week between Christmas and New Years and I have hunted in freezing rain and knee deep snow. Never had an issue with reliable ignition.

I hunt in the rain.....actually kinda enjoy it. Seems game animals like deer and Turkeys think that humans don't hunt in the rain and they are safer then. At least I have noticed my success is just as good in foul weather as it is when there are those "Bluebird" skies. Anytime the weather is foul, I use a finger cot over the barrel, whether it is rifle or shotgun. Few years back during the youth deer season, I carried my turkey gun in case we stumbled across any fall turkeys. At the end of the day as I was putting the gun away, I noticed the muzzle was plugged solid with a pieced of dried mud. Apparently, the last day I hunted in the spring musta been rainy and I probably stuck the muzzle in the mud while putting it under a fence. While I wiped the gun down, I didn't do the bore. Thank goodness we didn't see any turkeys that day. Ever since I've used the cots on the shottie too.
