Target Revolver Options

I don’t have much experience with dots other than an UltraDot, but from my reading, it seems the UltraDot is the way to go for target work: Possibly other dots are too big - big and easily visible for action shooting - but because of the size of the dot, also don’t offer a very precise aim point.

I never shot bullseye, but my impression is that you’ll find UltraDots on their guns.

Edit: Here’s a recent post of mine on RFC. IIRC, the UltraDot’s dot fits nicely inside the 10-ring of these targets. It’d be tough to shoot 10s with a big dot that covers the bull out to the 8-ring.

I have a few red dots and haven’t ever had a Ultradot. Just looking briefly at a few UltraDot options it looks like some have the option to change reticle size from 2, 4, 6 or 8 MOA while most red dot sights only have one size. However the ultra dots are much larger and heavier at 4 to 5 ounces versus around 1 ounce for my Vortex Vemon or half an ounce for my Sig Romeo zero. If buying a red dot for target shooting definitely choose 3 MOA over 6 MOA.

My target 22 has a 2-MOA and my target 9mm has a 3 MOA dot. Even if the Ultradots are better it will be a long time before I can shoot the difference, if ever.

I don’t intend to put a sight on a target revolver. It depends on how accurate it might be I guess.

I generally think revolvers are more accurate than automatics. I would think drilling 7-8 holes and rifling one of them would be less likely to be accurate than making a single barrel.

That might be the case but it is nice to have the option.

Practice for a couple of years and then it can be interesting to put on a scope and see what you can actually do.
