I have a dilemma when it comes to target rifles.

I'd love to have a scoped sub MOA target rifle but none of the "modern" rifles appeal to me. Most of what I own is milsurp because that is what I like but the trade-off is most milsurps either lack sub MOA accuracy, lack decent scope mounting options or require you to find a sniper model.

For example, I could find a 91/30 PU but I already have 2 mosins and don't really want a third (as unbelievable as that sounds). Currently, my favorite milsurp is my M95. I've got a good recipe for my reloads and it is very accurate but the ladder sight is getting difficult with my eyes. I suppose I could find a peep sight but its not the same thing.

I'm only shooting 100-200 yards. I want something where I can take my time shooting and reloading. Something capable of deer hunting though I use my milsurps for that. Something that is going to challenge me. I love plinking but I want something that is going to test my skills.

jp is on the dope right here; get yourself a hand selected swiss, and reload, for the all important sub moa. Also, you said you don't want another Mosin, but if you can , try to find a lam stock, or nice walnut type Finnish Mosin; those will knock a flies eyes as well, but not so good for reloading, but still, even with milsurp, i bet you will find one it puts in the same hole.
if you are going to reload, a 6.5 swiss, i think, is proly the best way to go.
Lastly , look for a semi auto, Dragunov, with a posp scope on it, 8 power, with illuminated reticle/ range finder. Very nice.

I like the mount on the K31. How does that work when reloading? It looks like it covers the ejection port.

The scope mount is a clamp on unit by St Marie Graphics and it's offset to the right. It works fine cause I'm a lefty, lots of wrong handers using it too. Good write up here This is a 7.5x55mm K31. It shoots great and uses the widely available .308" bullets FTW!

If you go the k31 route and reload, make sure you have the sizing die turned in far enough that the die comes into full contact with the shell holder on the down stroke (with a casing in there). Close is just not good enough. I'm mentioning this so that others do not have to make multiple trips to the range with bullets that just don't go bang.

Fun rifle to reload though due to the wide array of .308 bullets available.

K31 has the best trigger on a milsurp as well. 2 stage and the 2nd stage is short and crisp.

That was going to be my nest question. I can get the brass from Graf's but wasn't sure on the bullet. I wasn't too keen on the straight pull but I like my M95 enough to give the K31 another look.
