I picked up a used Tasco 3-9 X 40 Scope the other day.
It has the following markings on it...

W39x40V
Taiwan
AT-64

1. Is this a rifle or shotgun scope?
2. Any idea on how old it is?
3. At anything past 6x it gets real blury, is that because its a cheap scope?

It came came with Weaver 1" - USA rings...

4. Whats the value of this set up?

Thanks for helping me out, as I'm or a Handgun guy, but will be getting a rifle sometime down the road.

Can't help with the value, but it's not much.
Very likely a rifle scope, unless it has very thick cross-hairs in it.

The blurriness is not because it's a cheap scope.
Tasco's have always had pretty decent glass in them.

Most likely you are looking at something too close to you for the power setting.
3x will be in focus much closer then 6x or 9x.
So look at something 50 or 100 yards away, not 15 or 25 yards away.

Or, you need to adjust the focus for your vision.
1. Turn the power to 9x.
2. Quickly raise the scope and look at a clear blue sky.
3. If the cross-hair is blurry, adjust the eye-piece one way or the other.
4. Quickly raise the scope and look at the sky again.
5. Keep doing that until the cross-hairs appear sharp.

Do Not try to adjust it by continuing to look through it while turning the eyepiece.

Your eye will try to adjust to the out of focus image faster then you can screw the lens in & out.

rcmodel,

LOL... I went outdoors and looked through it on 9x, down the street, and it looked good.
It was not bad. My issue..... I was trying it out "in the house" on 9x looking at a soda can.
No wonder it was blurry, I was only like 25' away. Like I said, "I'm a handgun guy".

I was also trying to adjust it on 9x, while looking through it, at the can in the house. Any way, it seams clear now, once I went outside. Thanks for your advise.

PS... I wonder how old it is, as I did a quick google search on W39x40V, but it did not turn up much.

Is it glossy black with a silver stripe around the front objective? If so, I am familiar. I'd put the age in the late 80's or so. They are decent scopes, but no worth more than about 20 bucks used.

ColtPythonElite,

Yes, its just like you said, "Glossy Black with a Silver Stripe on the front"

I Paid $12.00 with the rings already attached to it.
Thought to myself when I get a rifle, I'll have a scope. At the price I paid, I thought it was a deal.

Thanks for your input, as my quick search on the web did not show much.
