Taurus 327's Showing Up in Stores

Two summers ago I was in Kodiak AK. A sporting goods store had 3 bags of Federal Premium 327 brass. I brought 2 of them home with me. That brass is super hard to find.
I have seen reports that Federal .327 brass doesn't last as well as Starline does with full power loads. I only have one bag of that brass and use it for lower pressure loads like 115gr with a starting charge.

The factory Federal American Eagle ammo I bought when these Taurus revolvers came out around 10 years ago had bad splitting problems. The 100 grain variant was worse than the 85 grain, the 100's felt like they were loaded hotter to me. I suspected the chambers on the Taurus were out of spec, but the brass split out of a blackhawk and patriot as well. However, some of the brass from this factory ammo that made it through the first reloading is still being used!

Maybe they have improved in the last decade.

The heavier federal jsp stuff splits when fired from three different revolvers of mine and none of them are a Charter.

I finally got this gun out and shot it today. I shot it with some 32 S&W long level loads and some 32 H&R Magnum level loads. It is very manageable with both. I think the trigger is fantastic, and I hit with it pretty well.

Family Firearms has them for $266 in blue and $295 in stainless. They don't charge tax and they have $20 shipping.

I've been looking for something new to buy and with the stainless one's I've been waiting for at under $300, I'm sold.

I picked mine up yesterday, stainless. Did a function check, lockup feel on all chambers in double and single, and everything felt proper and as it should be. If I'm correct this is roughly a J frame in size and if so this is my first J frame snub I've ever owned as I don't consider a 3 inch barrel LCR a snub. Figured these being one of the few .32 caliber snubs currently made and me wanting to also test the waters for current Taurus quality as I have been wanting the 692 for a few years now, I would get it.

I spent much of yesterday morning loading up some .327 and .32 Mag. I'm about out of Bullseye and Unique, so I've been using more Titegroup lately and did 4.1gr of it with 115gr LFN in the .327 and 3.8gr under the 90gr Sierra JHC for the .32 Mag. That 3.8 is over max pressure, but since this was going in a .327 and I have more brass in .32 Mag than .327 I went with it.

As usual with .327 revolvers, the 115gr shot much better than the 90gr did and by better I mean I hit steel more. The 115 has a good punch to it and after a few cylinders I could feel it in my hand, but it wasn't nearly as bad as say .380 in the LCP or a full power 250gr load in the Taurus Judge Public Defender. Tremendous amount of smoke from the lube, after a cylinder I swore it looked like I just shot a muzzleloader.

The 90gr had no recoil. A decent blast and some flash, but nothing terrible.

I am pleased thus far with this revolver and what appears to be current Taurus quality in 2023, so I will be getting the 692 in the near future.

Okay, yeah. I did not resist temptation well. Picked up one of those in stainless for a $299 starting bid. I was the only bidder. Will shoot it early next week. Seems okay just from looking it over.

Don't feel bad, I said to myself after shooting yesterday that if Taurus decides to make an Ultralight in .32 H&R that I'm going to be in trouble because I won't be able to say no to that either.

Thankfully Taurus snubs aren't priced like LCR's, are all metal, and are far better made than Charter Arms.

Do you get lead deformation with your Sierra 90's when you crimp them?

Why didn't you order from Family Firearms? No tax, no GB fees and $20 shipping. That aside, I think you are really going to enjoy it. I don't enjoy mine with full power loads, but with everything from 32 S&W long level loads up to about halfway between H&R and Federal Mag level loads, it's fun.

I get it when I seat them, but I'm figuring that's part of the design and the reason I swapped out my flat seating stem that I normally use for the concave one that came with the die. I'd rather have the nose have some radius than smashed flat.

When I looked at their site, it wasn't working properly. Down for maintenance or something. When I saw the other one on GB, it batted its cylinders at me and told me how handsome I was... one thing led to another... yeah. You know how these things go. :)

Just by chance this one has a better trigger than most Taurus j-frames and I might just leave the springs alone for a change. Hope to shoot it Monday or Tuesday. Put a box of 32 S&W long and a box of 327 in the range bag. My recollection of shooting 327 in the past was NBD, but maybe it'll be more exciting in this smaller platform.

Mine has a fantastic trigger. Anxious to hear how you like it after you shoot it.
