I recently found a LNIB Taurus 441 for $249. I have been kicking the idea around to pick up a .44 special and was wondering if the 441 was a good one to purchase and if the price sounded right.

Steelhead,Just happen to have a Gun Traders Guide next to me.The good book says that a Taurus 441 in blue NIB is worth $245.Excellent is $184.Good condition:$102.Stainless steel NIB $362. Excellent:$255.Good:$194 Hope this helps.I owned a 441 with 4in. barrel.Sold it because I couldn't use it for IDPA.Purchased a Taurus 357 instead.:cuss: :banghead: That's how I feel after letting it go. Not a thing wrong with the 441 either. At least not with my specimen.Good luck and enjoy if you get it.Something about that old big slug was just comforting. The loads for self defense are excellent. If you reload the possibilities are even better.

I don't put much stock in those prices. If a Gun Show dealer is buying, he'll use that price and offer you 60-60% of it. If he's selling, he'll double it and add $10 :)

I bought a very nice one a year ago for $250. My first Taurus, smooth, shoots well, looks sharp. I let a friend shoot it and he wants to buy it.

Hard to find a decent 44 Spl for a reasonable price. S&Ws are rare and pricey, Rossis and Charter Arms :barf:

I've had two different 44 special taurus revolvers. They are a good buy. The one you are looking at is a fair price.

orionengnr,

Are you aware that Rossi is owned by Taurus, yep....same company. Has been for awhile now. There guns are made on Taurus tooling and even stamped so.

Taurus.....:barf:

Ah.Another Taurus basher who shows up on most of the Taurus threads.I have 3 Taurus revolvers still. All purchased in the middle or late 1980s.No repairs,Still decent accuracy. No cylinder timing problems. No gas blow by.No bullet shaving problems. The trigger pull in DA and SA are smooth and break just the way I want them to.I don"t see a problem here. In this part of the state Taurus sells many revolvers to people who know firearms. These people own even the big name makers of other pistols. So as soon as I can fumigate the nay sayers out of here the better.Everyone is allowed to have their opinion. And Taurus has had problems on and off. What gun company doesn't? I keep track of all the success stories as well as the failures, and recalls by the gun makers.Remember the Colts last large frame DA nine mm.? Hmmm. So get the Taurus and have a gunsmith check it out.Enjoy

weregunner,

I was just putting two and two together for orionengnr who apparently didnt get the memo that Rossi and Taurus were the same company.....and have been for quite awhile.

He deduced Rossi = :barf:

since Rossi = Taurus

Taurus = :barf:

If you would buy a Taurus you should have no problem buying a Rossi....same manufacturer, same warranty, same gun made on the same tooling by the same people.

As to me view of Taurus......if they ever return my gun I will shoot it and let you know. They have had it since I bought it, as it was defective straight out of the box.

aaronkelly. Didn't know the whole sort behind your problems wi th Taurus. Not trying to yank chains but you know what they say about opinions? For us who have had success with our brand we get a little defensive.I could probably find bad examples for anything you own.But I'm not going to give you grief over it.What you say and feel is fine. Let the rest of us be in peace.Me goring your ox isn't going to help civilty over here. The guy wants the gun and I trust his judgement.

weregunner,

Listen man, I didnt start bashing Taurus on this thread....in fact, based in my posts (I just re-read them) I have YET to bash Taurus.

I stated I would let you know my opinion on them when I get my gun back. If they do a good job and my gun functions then hey, were all good. If it sucks wind then thats not OK. On this thread I havent bashed Taurus yet, simply stated I couldnt give my opinion because I have yet to fire my Taurus handgun.

The only other mention of Taurus by me was to correct someone else misconception that Rossi guns sucked but Taurus guns were great.

That makes absolutely NO SENSE - for about the last 3 or so years Rossi has been owned by Taurus.

If you got a good Taurus then you have a good gun, if you have a bad Taurus you have a bad gun.

Same goes with Colt, Kimber, Smith and Wesson etc.

If it dont work its a bad gun, plain and simple.

I have a bad Taurus.........maybe one of these days I will have a good Taurus. Only time will tell.....hopefully not much more time but hey, what can I expect.

I, alas, have had problems with Taurus. They made fine looking revolvers, with very nice polish, but I experienced horrible accuracy problems with them. Grouping was a real chore. On the three revolvers (all Model 66s) I tried, all three had chambers which were just sort of drilled through. There were holes, but very little throating. Even wadcutter bullets would drop through the chambers without catching.

So I'd never own a Taurus, though I did have a good 92 and 99 9mm. Never jammed but were never as accurate as the Berettas.

I've owned a few Rossis and never had any trouble. They're not great, but for the money I can't complain. Mine have shot very accurately and I have a 3-inch Model 88 that got me through a tight fix in Washington, D.C.

Time to call a halt to the give and take fiasco. All here have had some good points and will have to learn to disagree on some things. If the guy wants it,so be it.He doesn't,I'm fine with that also.People near our purcahaser to be may be of more help.Condition of the gun has everything to do with this and if in doubt, don't buy.Pictures are ok,but don't tell the whole story.Saw one 441 on an auction site that had a slight almost imperceptable bow in the barrel. It was stainless steel, which makes me wonder what happened to that unfortunate revolver.Auf Weider insane. That is a joke.If you don't laugh I'll start telling war stories.

Moderators. Please close this thread down due to lack of any more credible input. The original poster hasn't been back and no one has been able to post helpful information in a number of days. What is neede is relevant info.I haven't seen much in the way that could be considered helpful.I can take partial blame for this.I'm still learning the finer techniques of posting common sense info.I admit to being slightly handicapped but will not go into it here.
