I recently bought a like new Taurus 441 5 shot .44 Special.

I could not find any info on Taurus's web site about this gun. What size frame is this considered to be?

It looks damn close to the same as my Smith Model 10.

I'm asking because I would like to replace the rubber grips with either a different set that fits my hand better in rubber or a nice set in wood or bone.

Thanks.

I have a Taurus 431. Same as the 441 only fixed sight. Mine came with the factory wood grips. (nice) but I was looking to rubber ones on mine. I went on ebay and bought a new pair of Uncle Mikes grips (discontinued) There are the best you can get for this weapon. You have a very good gun. The 431/441 are K size frames. Grips are K size, holsters are K size. I have HKS speed loaders that I carry also. I shoot Blazer GDHP 200 grainers for defense. I roll my own for the range. I strictly shoot 200 grain RNFP for target shooting.
I love my 44. It is a great ccw gun. And the quality of the gun is top notch. Mine was made in 1994. Got it new and have never had an issue.

Thanks for the info guys. So far I'm really happy with this 441. I have not got to shoot it yet, my buddies have, I'm recovering from eye surgery and the doc says no shooting for another 2 weeks... According to Taurus this one was made in 1992.

The above is very helpful but I'm trying to figure out what frame Taurus calls the thing as they list their wheel guns by frame size (Sm, Med. Lg. etc.)

AZG: I've loaded a bunch of lead RNFP 200 grain pills over 5.2 of Titegroup. It shoots really well. As it seems to fit my holsters for the Model 10 S&W I may even carry this now-n-then.

I have Hogue Checkered Rosewood on my 431. (431/441 are med frame with square butt Taurus models) Very comfortable and nice looking.

I have the 431 relative. If it was "large", it would likely be a 6 shooter instead of five. Nice gun.

Taurus called that a "medium" frame, but do not confuse it with the "tracker" medium frame. The grip frame is different, different design grips required.
The 441 that I have been shooting is a 1992 model with well over 12000 hand loads thru it with my hand cast bullets. Great guns, these Tauri!!!!

The thread lives!

I just wanted to update this.

I did find a set of like new original Taurus wood grips that are similar to what S&W calls 'Target' grips. $10 at a pawn shop!

This is indeed a medium frame. Confirmed by a fellow shooter who seems to know Taurus revolvers well.

I'm also still happy as hell with this gun. What a great consistent shooting and accurate blaster.

Here's a before pic:

And yes, I know it's dirty. It gets little rest! :D

I have heard good things about them - almost bought one on GB recently, but the price got too big for me.

In terms of what exactly is a "medium" frame, my Taurus 441 fits the same holsters as my S&W 696 L-frame (or 686), which we know as Smith's "medium" frame. In addition, these guns reside in a model line up that includes a "Large" and, with Smith, an "extra large" above it. It is, of course, relative.
