Taurus 817 - 7 shot

Does anyone have experience with the Taurus 817, the 7 shot 38 special? I am wondering about recoil, fit and finish, reliability, accuracy and general impressions. Would you buy it again knowing what you know? Thanks for the help.

I have the 617; it is the 7 shot 357. I got it used at a good price and it has been a very nice gun. Some don't like it because it's a Taurus and some don't like the ported barrel but so far I have been pleased. Mine is a blued gun and it has a slick finish almost too slick because it shows fingerprints. As far as recoil, mine is very mild but this may be due to the ports, either way it's a shooter and a keeper. The good thing is that they are easily found used, this may be due to folks buying a Taurus but really wanting a Smith. Accuracy is good for such a short barrel. Hope this helps?
