I have never owned a Taurus, and I'm really keen on Smif's. That being said, my experience with the S&W 940 was poor due to incurable sticky extraction. Has anyone got any comment on the Taurus 905? Do the moonclips interechange w/ the 940? What configs are available? I'd really like another stainless, Centennial-like 9mm pocket thunderer, but I'm not sure I'm ready to try Taurus. Heck, (to quote Tamara), I consider Colts and Rugers to be "Brand X".

I don't have a 905 yet so I can't comment on whether you'll have any sticky extraction like your 940. I'm not sure if the clips from the 940 will interchange, but I wouldn't be surprised (the .38spl and .357mag small framed guns interchange with S&W J-frame speedloaders).

Configurations? Right now it is available in stainless or blued with exposed hammers, stainless or blued aluminum with exposed hammers, or stainless or blued steel with bobbed hammers (905CH). You can't get it in titanium, lightweight alloy with bobbed hammers or in the Centenial or Bodyguard styles yet. The closest to what you want right now would be the stainless with the bobbed hammer (905CHSS)

I can say that I am completely pleased with my Taurus 85CH. Reasonably accruate, very reliable, well made, great DA trigger. I have had two other Taurus revolvers in the past (an 82 and 605) that ranged from good (82) to great (605). Based on my experiences with Taurus revolvers I will certainly pick myself up a 905 when I can.

Edited to add link to the gun.

I recently purchased a Taurus 905CH (concealed hammer, actually bobbed hammer) and once owned a Smith 940 so I can at least address some of your concerns. With my Smith, I also noted sticky extraction with some loadings. To date, the only load I have fired in the Taurus is Remington (UMC) 115 grain, standard pressure FMJ. I experienced no stickiness at all. As a matter of fact, since the moon clips supplied by Taurus will not even come close to working with the Remington load, I shot a lot of rounds with no clip at all and by tipping the open cylinder up and maybe giving it a small tap, all rounds fell cleanly onto the bench. The clips do seem to work all right with some other, more defensive-type loads, however. When I bought the Taurus, I tried some Smith and Wesson clips at the store. They do NOT work with the Taurus. The Smith and the Taurus extractor star are shaped differently and the Smith clips will not fit over the Taurus star. Too bad. Don't know yet how well the Taurus clips will hold up. I heard that Ranch products will be offering clips for the Taurus. I don't remember all the configurations. I have the stainless steel, bobbed hammer. There is a hammered version. I think there is a blued version. I am not sure if there is a "Centennial"-type with a true concealed hammer. There will soon be an Ultralight version with alloy frame. Don't know about Titanium. So far all versions are small-framed, two-inch barrels with fixed sights. Mine seems to be very well made and is fun to shoot. If the clips prove worthy, I think it's a keeper. You can read about them at www.taurususa.com.
I would kinda like a steel, three inch, with adjustable sights, although I really don't know why...LOL. BTW, the steel versions, at least, are not ported.

Thanks, guys. Keep it comin'. I prob'ly won't even be able to put it in the safe with the others. It just wouldn't be understood...

Is there any way to remove/disable the stupid integral lock on Tauruses? I really want a 905, but I don't buy firearms with integral locks on them.

removing locks

I know of no way to remove the lock on the Taurus snub. Is your concern political or mechanical?

If your opposition to the lock is political, then I would think that you would not want to buy the weapon even if you could remove the lock.

If you concern is mechanical, I would try to find an exploded diagram or talk to a knowledgable Taurus service or sales person about the lock. I've examined it, and I cannot see how it could be accidentally engaged or break and interfere with the function of the weapon. The best removal method may be to just throw away the key and ignore the lock.
