Taurus G3 (Good or Junk)

Or your Ruger LCP, Sig 320, S&W Shield, Beretta PX4, and Kimber 1911 fail to fire, feed, or the trigger fails to return after the first shot. Read the Gun Forums enough and you will see all these these things happening. It's not a perfect world.

Unless someone is trying to stab you or you're being shot at when the mag drops and the magazine catch falls out...
It would be a very unfortunate and highly unlikely occurrence for me, either to shoot someone in a self-defense situation or to be shot by someone. It is much more likely that, shooting 100 to 200 rounds each session, the eventual magazine release problem will arise at the range and then I will think about how to fix it.

... As an everyday day carry piece. Is the G3 a good gun or a junk gun for $255.00?
I have only had mine for a short time (so I have not had the time to thoroughly test it) but, so far, I have found it to be an excellent handgun & an amazing value for an on-sale+$25rebate price of $225. :)

The fact that it comes with 3 mags rather than 2 is like getting this pistol for a price of $200 since I do not immediately have to source and buy that 3rd mag.

I recently had to (mightily!) resist the urge to buy a 2nd from Rural King when they appeared back on-sale for $10 less than they were last month (with $25 Rebate still in-effect). The 80mile-roundtrip and current gas prices helped me talk myself out of the addition trip, btw. ;)

Stop being reasonable. People like to dump on Taurus.

To me that new g3xl model looks to be the cat's meow. I may try to convince my dad to make me up a plate. I'm not sure what tools he has now for doing that now that he's retired but he used to do sheet metal work on aircraft (in addition to be an a&p mechanic).

I'm not dumping on Taurus. I've owned the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 since 2016 and I've said repeatedly over the years that I've never had a malfunction with it

Taurus has created a firearm that has a known defect that instantly disables the gun. You think its unreasonable for owners to expect Taurus to do a recall and fix it ?

I'm glad there are gun owners like you out there because my Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 is for sale and only someone like you would buy it.

What is the known defect?

Part of it seems to be that the spring for the magazine release button sits in a shallow well on the button and slips off:

But ordering a new magazine catch and spring doesn't fix the problem. The spring rubs against the frame and wears a grove which gives it room to slip off. People have ordered the new mag catch and a new spring and the mag still drops and the button falls out.

If the problem has already manifested itself, you can send it into Taurus and they will fix it, and I've heard that the fix involves a new frame.

When Taurus released their TX-22, aside from the horrible barrels, the recoil assembly acted as a grinder in the front end of the slide causing cracked or broken slides. Mine cracked after 4000 rds, went back to Taurus and was returned to me after 12 weeks. When I removed the new slide I found that the same recoil assembly was installed. They fired it I think 30 times. The new slide already showed signs of wear. Point being Taurus knew about the poorly designed recoil assembly but decided not to solve the problem. They just let it ride which is so typical of the worst customer orientated firearm company out there. They can keep their sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't firearms. My dollar will go to a company that gives a hoot about the people that are buying their products.

I agree that you roll the dice on such guns, but if I were rolling the dice on a budget gun, I would prefer to have the safety net of good to great CS. But at least it seems that the G3 carries less of a risk of problems than older Taurus designs.

Despite Ruger’s reputation for great CS, I would possibly even consider opting for a G3 over a Security 9, if those were my only two options. The Security 9 is emblematic of everything that I find bizarre and off-putting about Ruger’s direction as a semi-auto manufacturer these days.
But is the security 9 bad? Or just bizarre ? I'm considering one, 300$ OTD.

Both my son and I have the Security 9 compact. Both have been flawless. Both have been accurate. Both eat any ammo we feed them including reloads, hollow points and +P. 1000'S rds fired between the two without a single problem. My son is more accurate with his security 9 than with his Sig P365. Ruger deserves our hard earned dollars, Taurus certainly does not.

See, I'm curious about it. This will be the most modern firearm I own (already on layaway). All I've owned before is surplus handguns, and surplus rifles. Never even owned a 9mm before.

So you've sorta told me, confirmed for me, that it's worth trying out at least , as my first Polymer Double Stacked handgun.

Both my son and I paid $300 for ours. Your $300 OTD price is very very good. I was at my local range today and the price of the Security nine is now $409. Everything is going up in price due to this crazy inflation and firearms are not excluded. Even if you decide to get a different firearm at a later date you'll be able to get your investment back with no problem at all. Ruger's lifetime warranty and their outstanding customer service follows the gun not the owner which is a very big plus.

Taurus G3C- Accuracy about 6" @25 yards. Barrel has Short throat . Magazine release may fail, dropping loaded magazine. The GX4 release spring has been redesigned.

Spring problem i have on 1 of 2 G3C guns. Never to be trusted again. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/taurus-g3c-magazine-release-fail-repair.899895/

Those who have ever had to experience taurus' stellar customer service can attest and vouch that they would never do business with the company again like yourself and I. More important I guess people follow Internet propaganda with influencers proselytizing, but there's no way I would ever get a taurus again.

Basically anybody who speaks well of Taurus loses credibility in my book.

I have dealt with Taurus Customer Service twice. Once was a used 738 with a serial number prefix of A. CS said they are now in the F and had several upgrades. I bought the gun used and it kept jamming. They sent me a mail slip, and had it back to me in two weeks! Ran everything I ever reloaded through it since.

Second time was more recently, over a crane issue in a second hand Judge Polymer. I shipped it to them, through LGS and they shipped it back.

I have dealt with Ruger and gotten the same great service. If I had to rack them, Ruger would win out in the CS dept. But not by much. Especially with Taurus building more and serviced more of their pistols here in the USA.

But I will say the Security 9 is just a glorified Keltec, but really it’s just a step above a Hi Point! You put a G3 up next to a S9 and you can see the G3 has much better quality parts and build. Just no contest. And I’m no Ruger hater. But their best days of semi auto center fire is behind them. They just copy a Keltec design and slap their name on it nowadays. But to give credit where credit is due, their Max 9 is pretty good. It’s one of the few sub-sub compact micro carry (whatever they call the new small 9s now) that I shot very well. That would be the Ruger to be looking for if you wanted to carry and wanted a newer pistol. Well worth the extra $100 over the S9.

Heavens no, what will I do if you ignore me, don't be all dramatic, I'm glad your Taurus guns work for you.

Facts: Taurus has worst rating with bbb and consumer reports out of ALL gun companies. Also facts: Taurus screwed me over one to many times, and use their customers as beta testers, and may be able to fix your gun if you send it in enough times.

Beretta has the same "F" rating from BBB as Taurus. And Hi-Point and SCCY share "A+" ratings with Colt and S&W.

View attachment 1067723

Difference is in the numbers of complaints,49 complaint on Beretta, but 249 with Taurus. Also, reading the complaints they show Taurus holding guns indefinitely as common, and not fixing guns so the customer sells at a loss. It's clear Beretta took care of problems after they were made aware.

Warranty is good to switch you to another gun you don't want, I mean handgun is same as rifle right?
