So I've been looking for a Ruger speed six for some time with no luck... In my search to find something similar, I stumbled across the Taurus mod 65. It seems to me like its almost the same revolver. Can anyone tell me the quality of the Taurus vs a Rugger? Should I keep looking for the speed six or do you think that the Taurus is as reliable and will handle like the Ruger?

Thanks!
V.

I have a model 65 Taurus from 1989 and a M605 (recently purchased) for pocket carry. Both have been trouble-free. I can't speak for Ruger, as I don't own any of their products.

I have a six inch Taurus Mod 65 and the 2 3/4 inch Ruger speed six.

Both guns are well made and reliable. The ruger is significantly heavier.

The model 65 is built on the same frame size as the S&W model 19/66. I bought it to hunt and it has brought home several nice bucks over the years.

I was concerned at first that a steady diet of magnum loads would wear it out prematurely. It is fed nothing but 158 grain JHP at max velocity. With the warranty on the gun and the low price I paid for it, I consider it a good deal. It is not what I depend on as a carry piece though. It will probably outlast me. The Ruger will definately outlast me.

thanks! Thats kinda why I was trying to hold out for the Ruger. I guess I'll be patient...

Thanks!

I think that if you can stand it, that you should hold out for a Ruger.

That said, I don't see many of the -Six series Rugers out there these days. My favorite dealer had two Security Sixes. One now resides at my house...the other was a DAO revolver...

While the Taurus is nice, I really like the Ruger.

I sold my Taurus65 to fund a Security Six I found. I just like Rugers so it was a natural decision for me when I found it.

I think the Ruger is the better choice-

I have owned revolvers from both companies, and unfortunately had problems with every Taurus I owned (3, chambered in .38, .357 and .44 special). I have, on the other hand read may posts from folks who had nothing but good experiences with their Taurus products.

My Ruger's have never given a moments difficulty...YMMV
