Well after officially abandoning my search for a compact PDW (apparently affordable ones in the $600-800 range don't exist) I have decided to buy another hi cap 9mm pistol. I've been looking at the Taurus 809 9mm and the specs as well as the reviews seem to be great.

Just wondering if anyone has this particular model or knows someone who does and can comment on the reliability/durability of it? I really like the idea of a hammer fired polymer handgun with a decocker that can also be carried cocked and locked. Warranties are also attractive to me in case of major issues/breakages.

The reviews that I have seen are very positive from owners but several forums are littered by the "I had a bad gun so every model that Taurus makes is garbage" type comments that I've come to expect online.

Anyways, thanks in advance for info or experiences.

I bought a PT809 a few years back and was not reall happy with it. It just didn't feel right in my hand, and I had several FTE's the whole time I had it. the one positive was the double stack capacity. I eventually sold it to someone who liked it better than I did.

A friend of mine has an 809, and it's great, so I bought one. Sadly, Taurus got me again, and mine was a dud. Swapping mags and the entire slide and barrel made little difference. My second dud Taurus, and probably my last.

I sent it to Taurus and it came back a little better, but not reliable at all, so I sold it to another friend who likes to tinker with guns to get them working right. So far, he's not figured out what the problem is, but once in a while, it actually will run an entire mag without a stumble.

It's too bad, it had all of the features I wanted but there are lots of people even on the Taurus forums saying to stay clear of the 809.
