A guy I work with is wanting to trade his Taurus TH40 with two extra magazines and magazine loader for my Springfield XD subcompact also chambered in .40 S&W. Would I be cheating myself?

How much is the Springfield XD selling for used? Mine is the mod 2 version with a fiber optic sight on the front.

Don’t want to knock Taurus. They make some decent models. However, your Springfield is a better gun. Keep it. If you want a Taurus buy another one. They are usually pretty cheap under normal times.

I've seen a YouTube video that implied the TH model they had was not very accurate.
I think the XD is a much better gun. I wouldn't trade straight across. He'd need to throw in something to sweeten the deal before I'd trade. Pictures of dead presidents would help.

I would stay with the Springfield XD. Taurus makes good firearms, but not to the same level as Springfield.

To me you would come out the loser but, do you like the Taurus better for some reason? I mean it's your gun, so if for some reason you like the one better, and with this panic going on can't buy one? Why not I guess.

I actually like Taurus but the Springfield is more valuable. I would ask for at least $100 along with the Taurus for it.

Taurus has improved its products and reputation over the past 5 years. Once they opened shop in FL the customer service improved but last I heard they still have service problems with long time waits for repairs and parts. I bought a G2C in May of 2018. I sold it in September. The gun worked, but I never came to like it. I and hated their CS folks. I had a question about the gun function and no one knew anything about the gun. I was a bit shocked. If I could npt afford a more upscale gun, I would be ok with Taurus, When I was shopping for a 380 I rented the Taurus Spectrum along with a couple other makers’ 380s. I tried Remington, Ruger, M&P, Keltec. The Taurus was the least appealing. I bought a Ruger. F

I’ve got both, I’ve had to return both to the manufacturer’s service dept. Both gave me outstanding service. The XD may be a better gun than the Taurus but only the Springfield just up and quit on me. Rather than send it in again I traded it in for a 40 instead of a 45. Granted the Springfield may be more costly than the Taurus but I can’t say it’s any better. I’ve got 4 Taurus handguns, they all work just as well as my Colts, Rugers, Walthers, Berettas, S&W, as well as quite a few more. Keep the XD and get yourself a Taurus if you want one.

If the guy is a good friend and you like the Taurus see if he will sweeten the pot. Cash or other stuff you might want. The Springfield is a more expensive pistol. Just don’t want to have any hard feelings later.

For what it's worth. I just traded my SiL a XDs compact 9mm and a Taurus PT111 G2 for a New S&W 9mm Shield. I did not like the feel of either of the other two pistols but love the Shield as I now have 2. He passed the Taurus on to his father and kept the XD. Everyone is happy, though I probably wouldn't have made that trade with anyone else.

Idk the only Springfield I ran stunk. Have fired and owned several Taurus. I know that mistakes happen. Maybe they let a dud slip through QC. It was a compact 1911 can't remember model. Wouldn't make it through a mag without jamming. Stove pipe, double feed, failed to eject. Tried different mags, ammo. Same thing.

Taurus makes good reliable pistols. You're going to have a few Negative Nancy's who dislike Taurus based on issues they had years ago with long since discontinued pistols. Their dislike for Taurus and recommendations against their pistols is based on obsolete information...

The Springfield XD is going for $300 new with their Defender Package which comes with only 1 mag and no accessories. The TH40 is going for the $250-$270 range. The XD is seen as a higher tier pistol with a better finish. It's in the Glock and M&P tier duty pistol. I'd ask for at least $50 on top if I were to trade.

Different model and platform altogether than what the OP is interested in... The XD line has been out for years, it's based on an older and proven design, it was at one point issued by L.E., and they're made overseas in croatia whereas I believe their 1911s are made/assembled in the U.S.... Apples and oranges...

The two brands are in different tiers of quality and price, though Taurus has improved, and I'm happy with my two revolvers recently from them. I have not yet entered into their pistols. (actually I have a Taurus pistol, TX22, very nice, but being rimfire I didn't think of it before).

Springfield quality in 1911s is a known, and their XD line has a well-deserved excellent reputation. My XD45 Compact and XDs 9mm are both great pistols with no failures. My 1911 loaded stainless went in for an inspection and they throated it for hollow points for free and got it back to me quickly. Good service.

Not to say Taurus isn't good - they have some very nice models that are well-regarded, and I like mine. But if I knew I had to face something bad and the choice was between them, it's no contest - Springfield without a second thought.

Yeah I haven't handled or fired many. That one had me swearing them off. This was 2008. Maybe it's time to give them another shot. Idk Taurus are cheaper ones I've had worked. CS is junk. That's why I love Ruger and hi point. Best CS I've found.

I think Springfield is the better brand, and should an issue arise, has the better and more reliable customer service.

This is based on the report of local gun owners processing QC customer service issues with firearms over the last couple decades.
