I’m not interested. Just discovered these when looking for something else. I have no other info.

I would spend another 100-150 and get a new example of the six shot version before I would spend $250 on this, but if these aren't clapped out or lemons, it's not a bad deal.

I don't think these could be imported as ex police guns with barrels that short. Taurus brings them into Miami with cheesy plastic adjustable sights and long barrels that get chopped off/removed once they're in the U.S. I guess that means they would need to be American ex-police guns, right?

Are these trade-ins from Brazil?

Hard to imagine a US PD issuing a Taurus.
I don’t know. I didn’t look into it.

You made a good point. I would think they’re from American police agencies, but what agency would use Taurus.

I am wondering if these revolvers were security company arms and Sportsman’s Outdoor Superstore listed them as police trade ins.

Well I recently bought a Taurus 605 2 inch brand new for $329 so I can't imagine spending $250 on a used version where I didn't know what I was getting. I'm very happy with the one I bought. I carry it often.

Edit to add; As much as I like mine I find it hard to believe a legitimate law enforcement agency issuing them. Maybe I am wrong.

The one remaining is $299, which is not a screaming good deal for a 605. It's a little older gun, not having the pinned front sight.

Says not available on both of them. But for 249 it might be a decent truck pistol.

I've always gotten good service from Taurus revolvers. I've got a 327 now that is my EDC. I've owned a bunch of them over the years. I can't say I've shot them a lot, they sort of come and go, but they all worked as well as anything else. Maybe not as pretty, but solid, servicable guns. I had one, a Model 82...think a heavy barrel model 10...that I did shoot the snot out of using 38 wadcutters back in the day. Other than having the ugliest set of wood grips I've ever seen not a thing wrong with that gun.

I saw a 4", Model 82 at my LGS the other day tagged under $200.00. I was really tempted, but it was in pretty rough condition externally. Mechanically it was tight as it could be. It must have been a South American cops gun at one time, it had a lanyard loop on the butt, and some importers markings. I forget which one. I was tempted, but the last thing I need is another 38/357, so I let them put it back in the case. Can't save all of them I guess.

I've carried my 605 for many years now as my primary edc. Bought it new for 280 years ago. And bought a 85UL at same time for 265. The 85 is same gun as 605 just in 38special only. Both have been great thousands of rounds through my 605. I would buy another but not a used one for almost new prices. 20230112_144140.jpg I've never had any issue with the many taurus wheelguns I've owned and shot over the years.

Very doubtful these are American law enforcement trades.

Probably from out of country or perhaps a security company.

Several years ago I was looking for a revolver for the wife, and didn't have a very large budget at the time.
We got a Taurus 82 police trade in for $199 and it's been good. From 10 yards and under, it's plenty accurate.
I had one small problem with it. The little ball that latches the cylinder in place was stuck and the cylinder wouldn't lock up. A local smith polished it up and got it working like a top for only $25.
It's been perfect ever since. For a nightstand gun (which is what we got it for) it's absolutely fine. I'd probably buy another for $199.

i own taurus 85 and 856 snubbies, both new and gently used, excellent pieces.

i have seen some indonesian national police still carrying taurus 85 snubbies. the carriers typically appear to be higher ranking officers or traffic police. their sidearms are more a badge of power in a highly gun-controlled nation, than a practiced tool. the indonesian national police who carry with a purpose (e.g. brimob, densus 88) are armed with semiauto pistols. i cannot imagine that these taurus 85 snubbies are shot much or are well cared-for, by the dismal look of both the holstered revolvers and their carriers.

anyway, hard pass on the advertised police surplus taurus 605. for $50ish more one can get a n.i.b. taurus 856 with an extra round of capacity and a lifetime warranty. the days of great bargains in police surplus revolvers are likely done as agencies all over the world have mostly already transitioned to semiauto pistols some time ago.

I agree on both counts.

For as much as I hate Taurus automatic pistols. I like their revolvers . I carried a model 94 22LR woods bummin' for many years. Shot a buddy's 38 snubby a lot . The only reason I have not picked up a Taurus 38 special is that I am trying not to add different calibers to what I have

You see that screw that holds in the crane? A colleague's dad lost the screw in his, asked me to help getting another one. It's an oddball pitch/size (metric?), tried one from a Smith, as well as various screws from a really good hardware.
Taurus was in the process of moving from Brazil, so it took a year to even be in touch with them, and then they futzed me around. I finally threatened to raise hell on the gun boards, and then they shipped me a screw. But they did charge me for the part and shipping. :(
On reflection, I should have tried Numrich.
