Although I hesitate to post anything positive about Taurus for fear the Taurus haters may threaten to leave the country and join Alec Baldwin, I thought someone may find this information usefull or at least amusing.
Picked up a 709 about five weeks ago. Put approx. 300 rounds thru it with 4 failures to eject – nice groups- shooting low and left (from a stand) with sites maxed. Friday two weeks ago I called Taurus CS and told them what was happening. They asked if I’d like to send it in – I took them up on it and they picked it up via Fed-X on Monday before noon. Wednesday afternoon it showed up on the website as rec’d. Same Thursday, same on Friday. Monday afternoon when I checked the website it stated it was repaired and shipped. A couple of hours later I received an email with tracking information stating it would be delivered Tuesday morning before 10:00. As so it was. 8 Days door to door.
I can’t complain about that!
Ran 250 trouble free rounds of Corbon DXP, Speer Gold Dot +p, S&B, Magtech, Fiocchi thru it last Thursday, all 124gr. except the DXP. Shot to point of aim. It appears they replaced the extractor and moved the rear sight block to the right a bit. Mine was an older serial number and may have had the original – marginal extractor. Another 300 or 400 perfect rounds and I will right this off as a great experience.
The trigger has a lot of slack but it breaks clean at the rear and only requires about a ¼ inch of forward motion to reset, making follow up shots very fast and more accurate. Trigger could be slightly lighter but it is easy to master and may break in a bit yet. Fits my hand well, all components are easily reached. I have to say I am very happy with it and Taurus CS so far.
The frame is solid – more rigid than the CW9 I had and I like the metal rails inside better than the polymer Kahr.- always had small polymer shavings when I cleaned it. Loads easily from a sling shot – something else the Kahr rarely did. Locks back consistently after the last round and the slide release is perfectly placed for me as is the safety. The “strike two” capability is a nice feature in my opinion. Overall a well thought out weapon, easy to carry and conceal and comfortable to shoot. I have found the same to be true of my TCP 738 (700 rounds down the pipe). Put another 100 rounds through it this week – same consistent operation. May be time for a 6” Model 66 or 608 wheel gun now?
