I have learned that the Taylor and Company revolvers are Ubertis made to a higher standard - anyone here have examples of each who can verify? My very recent experience with Uberti hasn't been the best, and if I buy another, (only game in town for some models!), would the Taylor branded models be worth the scratch? Specifically interested in the Remington 1875 clone in .357 - yes, not original, but I already reload that round. ;)
Thank you.

I was told that Taylor demanded a higher quality level of work, that was what I wanted to confirm or deny. Do you have any examples of each?

Are Cimmarons also rebranded Ubertis?

Cimarron sells Uberti and Pietta just like Taylors does. I don't have a Taylor's but I have a Cimarron. It's just a standard Uberti with all the Italian markings hidden and the Cimarron barrel address roll stamped on the barrel Colt style. I put Wolff springs in it.

Taylor's is still a Uberti they go through a bunch of pistols and pick out the ones that have the least issues out of the box. As to whether or not they change anything without pumping up the cost I have yet to see. Ones I have had come across the bench haven't had anything special done to them. Same arbor issues, same inner parts.

Are the Wolf mainsprings strong enough for ignition? If they are the reduced power that is.

Seems like all the importers say they get the cream of the crop.
If so, Mitchell got the dregs, the one I had was kind of rough and ugly.
My ASM Schofield was a dud, the SAA I bought with the refund is OK but did take recutting the sight notch and "tweaking" the barrel to get it to shoot where it looks.
On the other hand, a friend's allegedly tuned up Taylors are very nice. Good enough to get her a couple of SASS championships.

I thought Cimarron's already came with Wolff springs.
I've had all three the differences are minimal my Cimarron have all come with coil wire springs as did my Taylor Smokewagon.
Maybe I'm just very lucky but all my Italian imports have shot good and the sights have been well regulated.
I've got a plain old Uberti Bisley 7 1/2" that rivals any of my modern guns as a pure target gun.

Here's the fact to contradict the myth, they are all the same. Cimarron, Taylor's, Dixie Gun Works, Stoeger, they are all importers. 40yrs ago Cimarron paid an extra $20-$30 to Uberti per gun for them to do a better job on fit & finish and that had a QC tech at the factory. For at least the last 20yrs, if not more, those changes have made it into the entirety of Uberti's production. They are ALL the same.

The ONLY difference is that some models are sent to a contract gunsmith for action jobs, I believe the original being the Cimarron Evil Roy model. They also contract engraving and special finishes but rest assured, they are all receiving the same base guns. Differing only in their respective importer markings.

According to whom?

No, they don't. Nobody does.

We get a lot of guns from Cimmaron for the shop. Can't beat the people.....Greg has turned out to be a good friend and always calls when he gets something cool in. Not sure about being better, but we haven't had an issue yet. We always recommend a trip through Jack Rabbits shop to get em perfect though......

I think, at least in the case of importers like Western Arms Corp. it may have once been true. Guns like these were available through them and even Navy Arms who once had Uberti’s with gain twist rifling.
