Looking to build a TC Encore 308 and trying to justify custom MGM or Bullberry barrel vs a factory barrel. lookin for input. No plans for shots beyond 300 and no plan to match shoot. If I go with the factory barrel plan to have it cut and recrowned @ 22". Otherwise would order the custom barrel at 22". One other question for Encore guys, will their factory barrels shoot 7.62 ammo w no issues?

Bump, Looking for some input asap please. Love the sight and hope I can contribute more in future.

By the time you pay to cut and crown the factory barrel, you can just buy the aftermarket for same money with no risk of complications from the modification. Factory barrels shoot fine for me and Im sure aftermarket will do good as well.

If you want the best, go with MGM. I have no experience with Bulberry but I believe they have a good reputation.

Whatever anyone says, if it's chambered for 308 Winchester, it will also shoot 7.62 ammo. Mind did fine with it.

With a good barrel, the Encore will stay with, yea even surpass many bolt guns. A trigger job with one of Mike Bellm's kits is well worth it but don't believe all that's written on his site. He seems to have a headspace issue with Encores; after several frames and probably 3 dozen barrels, I've yet to experience it.

Back when I owned an encore I always felt that Mike Belm, while helpful and knowledgeable with his website, was more interested in pointing out errors to sell a fix than he was to accurately educate users about the ins and outs of the system. If everything ge talked about was taken at full face value, the encore would be a deeply flawed system not worth messing with. At least that was my impression.

Thanks for input. A custom barrel adds extra 250 to the build. (Would like to upgrade optics to VX3i, so may just go factory barrel if folks not having issues) Have a really good gunsmith nearby that can recrown the factory barrel so may just go that route for now and custom down the road. And yes, Bellm spring kit will be installed for sure. Thanks for input guys

I have it on good authority that .308 and 7.62 ammunition have the same outside dimensions. The 7.62 brass is thicker (machine guns and all that), so the volume is less than .308; usually. Not all .308 brass is the same thickness, so the volume varies with that some, too. If you aren't used to an Encore, my advice would be to get a wooden stock. The plastic stock is a lot more fun to carry than to shoot; at least that's the case with my .35 Whelen and those 250 grain bullets...
