I got another crazy idea in my head today well searching for a .17 rem for my fox and coyote hunting. Originaly I was gonna go with a CZ527 but now I'm thinking of getting a Encore Muzzle loader or any barrel honestly or even just a frame and ordering a Bullberry .17Rem barrel for it.

My concern though is stands with doubles how fast can you reload the encores to get a 2nd shot off. The other thing I like about this is "bundling" kinda like the cable company I can use this to appeal to the wife 3, 4, 5 even 10 guns in 1 lol I think it may work to sell her on spending more for it cuz its like more then 1 gun in one. My father inlaw has the pistol version and my brother in law hs the new PH muzzle loader and 300win so what ever combos I get in barrels we can all swap depending on needs they have been trying to talk me into a encore/contender for some years now but iv always dismissed the idea till now.

I also thought about that at one time. But after checking prices, the frame cost as much as a complete "lower end" or used rifle. Same thing with the barrels.

I also had concerns about accuracy. Some say it is great and some would say they could not hit the broad side of the barn.

But, the lifetime warranty is a plus.

I'v found some good deals on gunbroker for various calibers I always figured if I bought one and didnt need the barrel it came with I could off load it for $200 theres a few on GB between 400-550 on up a lot under 500 though. My brother in law picked his up brand new with the muzzle loader barrel at gander for 500 out the door its like the base model though still interchangeable barrels though. I DONT want a fancy gun so I'm fine with a base model anything I wish the CZ came synthetic in the 527 varmint. I don't want to be worried bout scratching up some fine wood crossing fences or using a rock pile to rest on on one of my stands I get fox out of almost every week. Both my inlaws are extremly accurate the muzzle loader barrel and the 300winmag both are and even the pistol barrels are he has 357 MAX, 45LC/.410, and now a 35 rem though he added that recently and I haven't been home since January so I don't know how the 35 shoots.

If you get a custom barrel, you can get the accuracy. MGM will make exactly what you want:

A break barrel single shot isn't going to give you a fast second shot. A falling block single shot like a Ruger #1 is faster although a bolt is still faster and obviously an AR-15 is the way to go if follow up shots are what matter. If you are going to hunt with an Encore, you want to make that first shot be the perfect one! Realistically, if you have your second round gripped in the knuckles of your off hand when you fire, you can have it loaded and cocked in less than ten seconds. How much less depends on how fast you can move your hands. Probably some of those pro shooters could get it down to less than five.

My biggest concern for 2nd shots is its a coyote/fox rifle and coyotes like to come in pairs if not more hell even all the fox I called last season came in pairs....gotta love breeding season though I never did get a double after one drops the other boogies out at mach 5 coyotes some times stop and my new call as the fox bang feature to switch and get them to stop. I figured if I go the encore route I will have one of the shell holders on the stock like I do on my .243 marlin so the 2nd shot ammo will be easily accessible if I see 2 coming in I can easily grab it and get it ready in my hand.

they make a glove with elastic shell holders on the back of your non grip hand and I am certain you could home brew your own. I can get off a round and reload almost as fast as a bolt gun. I have bought and sold a handful of used barrels and they are perfect guns for guy that get the itch to buy a new toy-no transfer needed and mail order and ebay have everything under the moon. Supremely accurate guns to boot.

Accuracy? I had an Encore in .308 that was <1" shooter all day long. I still have a Contender with a 30-30 barrel that will shoot 3/4" and a .223 that will shoot 3/8", all at 100 yds. (Both Contender barrels are 14" long.) No worries there. Custom barrels are even better.

Encores are good guns and the average one is plenty accurate, 3 of my brothers have them and like them very much. BUT, it just gripes me that they are an over priced "casting" with "some" machineing on it!

Forget about a second shot with any single shot, if you are worried about a second shot, get an S&W MP15 Sport! Similar money and also plenty accurate to do the job.
