Techie, or Luddite, which are you?

I consider myself a hybrid...maybe a Ludditechie? Or a Techiluddite? Ive never been intimidated or too leary of current-gen tech. Nor have I lost interest in "old school" tech.

Essentially, stuff like rails, tritium sights, "tacticool" stocks, etc., dont bother me much; including weapons containing none of these things.

I buy a weapon based on capability/need (and yes, sometimes want). If this capability extends into the "tactical" arena, so be it. If not, then chances are I am simply needing a weapon covering nothing more than the basics.

I love weapons...period. Whether Rambo or Clint Eastwood, stormtrooper (Star Wars) or soldier...I dig them all (mostly anyway). Now, the muzzleloaders, "wild, wild west" type guns and so forth, I can certainly live without.

I like guns that work and fill specific needs. If new is better, I'll take it. If it's just different, no thanks.

Definitely a tried-and-true guy. I can't stand synthetic or much of anything tacticool. Some really nice AR-15s catch my eye but not when they are all ridiculously outiftted with everything from a laser to a can opener.

I love steel, either stainless or blue. And I love wood, either walnut or laminate. Just my tastes.

I'd rather have a 1911 over a Glock, a Mauser over a M16.

Just my personal preference.

I like old T&T designs, such as 1911's, Garands, and Ruger #1's.

I'm willing to try the old designs in new materials as a compromise with technology...

So I have a stainless 1911, Ruger #1's in laminated stocks with Gunkoted barrels, and a scout mount and muzzle brake on the Garand.

I don't think I'll go so far as a Glock or an AR-15, however. Those are just too far on the other side of the "high tech" line... :)

I am a Luddite also. I could care less about new ideas. Cars, trucks and guns. I still hunt with single shot rifles and SXS shotguns and prefer revolvers to autosand SA to boot.

Hey, browning-guy, love those Rook Rifles! My tastes lean more to the old stuff....mainly muzzleloaders, but have a few older cartridge guns, too. Couple of original CW-era rifle-muskets, an early 19th century Japanese matchlock musket, Adams C&B revolver c.1850, plus a Danish M.1867 rolling-block rifle, German double rifle c.1895, No.4 Lee Enfield, a MAS Mdl. 36, & a Colt 'Army Special' in .32WCF.

Bonza, you sound like me, more of a "pre Luddite", for the purposes of this discussion!

My S&W Model 10 and my Mosins are concessions to modernity, and even they represent 19th century technology.

haven't gotten to a matchlock yet, but would love to build/have a Japanese style example.

take care,

Tom

A bit of both, old designs with modern materials. Question: Is an AR15 old or new?

Thanx, Russ

Have to be some of both. I like the heft and feel of a good steel revolver and I prefer external hammers on automatics, but I also like my polymer-framed FNP-9, SIG Mosquito and Walther P22. Among the guns I would really like to own someday are the FN 5.7x28 mm PS90 and FiveseveN, FS2000 5.56x45 Carbine, Walther G22 .22LR (my son calls them "Halo" guns from the video game) and a Colt SAA in .45 Long Colt.

I guess I would be and old school techie?? My only semi autos are an sks, a 9mm (FEG P9R, which I think is a Smith clone internally), and a garand. Every thing else are (3) revolvers, (1) pump, (1) bolt, (1-2) break action (do barrels count as a new gun??).

Interesting thread, but I wish it was set up as a poll: luddite, techie or hybrid.

Like others here, I'm a hybrid.

With electronics - computers, professional sound gear, musical instruments - I'm a hard core techie.

With my guns ... well, see my sig line. :)
