Teenager shot in Olympia, WA by friend

Just found this on the Seattle WA KOMO-TV website. The shooting took place near my town.

When I first heard about this, it sounded like a horrible accident. But now that the details are out, it's all about stupidity, idiotic parents that have no idea what their kids are doing, and more fuel for another "I told you so!" by the anti's. It's bad enough we have to worry about the potential of the anti-gun bills at the Legislature.

Guess I'm more angry with the parents than anything. This was something that never should have happened if a caring parent would have clearly explained to a daughter why it's so important to treat any gun as if it were loaded and not to let anyone else touch it, much less play with it.

And I won't even go into the alcohol and the drugs.....

Sure, it is ok to show off your guns to your friends, but they were idiots to not follow the 4 rules, plus adding alcohol. The kids were old enough to understand gun safety, they just didn't take it seriously. I bet they will now.

Ironically, a new Harborview and UW study shows that having a gun locked was associated with a 73 percent reduction in risk injury. But researcher Dr. Doug Grossman says safety doesn't stop with locking guns.

"Locking your gun, unloading your gun, keeping your ammunition locked and keeping that ammunition stored separately from the gun," says Dr. Grossman.

Unfortunately, these safety precautions have the niggling side-effect of rendering the gun useless for the purpose intended, which in this case was supposed to be self-defense.

The girl is a twit. She should have been counseled by her parents never to mention having the gun. What the heck is a 16-year old girl doing with MULTIPLE drunk GUYS in her bedroom while her parents are asleep? She was undoubtedly showing the gun off to impress her swains with how "cool" she is. (Make that ... was.)

I wanna see this. Considering that noone can even come up with an accurate count of how many gun owners there are in this country I wonder how they came up with the number.

Ok, so I did a search for it and I couldnt find their number but, i did find an interesting site that is probably related.

It's actually pretty balanced (by balanced it shows both sides). And if you look at the subsections it gives the rundown a NUMEROUS firearms studies by different researchers. If you look close there is some pretty good information for our side buried in their.

For example if you look under the "buy backs" section and check out the results of their study from 1992 in Seattle you will see this:

1,172 firearms turned in, 95% were handguns, 83% operational. No statistically significant change in monthly average of firearm-related robberies, assaults or homicides, admissions to trauma center or firearm deaths.

Those are real numbers obtained by real researchers who arent funded by a special interest group.

The site also contains ACTUAL citations of their sources and numbers. Which is neat since thats a rare thing when it comes to firearms "statistics".

Actually, this kind of reporting doesn't surprise me. This area just doesn't get all goofy when something like this happens.
That's one of the reasons I moved here six years ago.

For instance last Saturday Lady45, P14Enfield and I stopped for gas at a local 76 station about 8am. Of course we had to go inside for two sodas and some "road food". The cashier asked where we were headed and Lady45 told her, "Down to Puyallup for the monthly Gun Show."

Now in many area this would get you a funny look at best. But here the girl behind the register just remarked, "COOL!"

That's the typical reaction around here.

I had a front universal go out on my Jeep a few years back on the way out to "The Pit" for a day of converting Money into Smoke & Noise. We limped into a repair shop. They couldn't help but notice all of the gun cases and ammo boxes in the back. Not only weren't they surprised but they told us the location of their favorite outdoor shooting spot. Since it would take overnight for the repair we called Enterprise for a rental. Figuring we'd just scrap the day and drive the 30 miles back home. The girl showed up with a mid sized sedan and when she heard from the girl behind the repair counter what we were up to she said, "Don't cancel your day. You guys need a SUV, but we're all out. How about I go back and get you a club cab 4x4 pickup for the same price?"

Man I love the Great Pacific NorthWetâ„¢.

The specific charges may depend on whether or not the victim survives. The article also state the two men that were in the room are employees of Olympia Arms, located near Olympia and just down the road from me.

Enterprise Car rentals

Bluesbear--Good for Enterprise! I'm not surprised, though. Had a hunting trip this Aug. interrupted by car theft, and the Enterprise people bent over backwards to accomodate us. Finished the hunt with the rental car and a borrowed gun.

Enterprise must be one of those odd corporations which think that by treating the customer right and DOING for them, they will survive and prosper. Silly people.
