I was doing some plumbing today, and wondered if anyone had used Teflon tape on the nipples' threads. I imagine it might seal it up a bit, and maybe it'll work in a similar fashion to anti seizing compound.

Inline shooters use Teflon tape on their wrench-removable breech plugs which shows that it can withstand some heat.
They would also put grease over the Teflon tape to help make it easier to screw the plug in and out.
I don't see much benefit from it if the nipple threads are cleaned after each shooting session.
Most all of the blowback is coming through the nipple hole.
Maybe if you tried it you'd like it, but it seems like the tape would be somewhat troublesome to apply without overlapping where it doesn't need to be.
Grease is effective and easy enough to use.

When I pull the nipples off for cleaning , they tend to be nasty with fouling. Maybe that'll help with the fouling around the threads?

I put either high temp wheel bearing grease or engine anti seize grease on my threads and clean out screw. And I do it every time I clean my guns. They never stick. I think the tape would be too thick. You need at least a couple of wraps of tape on the threads.

I've never done that, and my screws don't stick anyhow. I think I'm going to the Wall tomorrow, and test out the idea.

Anecdote:
I remember the dry torque specks on Hartzel propellers they had a torque spec of 84 lb/ft on the fiber lock nuts.
Years later they changed to wet torqe spec to 68 lb/ft using a antiseize compound on the fiber lock nuts.
Some guys were anti-seizing the studs and using the dry torque value and pulling the studs out of the propeller hubs.

Anti-seize works great in modist amounts with reasonable torques.

Anti-seize makes it super easy to strip out threads.

My 1860 ASM revolver nipples have a flat contact surface, once the flats are snug, over tightening dry only makes the nipple more difficult to remove.
Anti-seized and heavy torque you risk stripping your cylinder.

I just put a dab of whatever bullet lube is within reach, being careful to only get some on the threads, then like a spark plug, snug, not tighten, it down. Snug not tight. I don't think the tape would be worth the effort, and for me would be a solution to a problem that did not exist.

Update:

I regret ever doing this. Never do this. The burning melted the teflon and made a mess.

This may have to do with the type of Teflon tape used since there are different types for different purposes: --->>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_seal_tape#Types

Wylie1 stated that he used Teflon tape on his nipples because he doesn't trust anti-seize.
He posted:
"I use teflon tape, a bit tricky to apply but it works."
AND
"No other teflon tape users? I just don't trust anti-seize alone."

Someone on another forum also responded that he prefers Teflon tape over anti-seize. --->>> https://www.missouriwhitetails.com/threads/muzleloader-nipples-anti-seize-vrs-teflon-tape.188173/
And a person posted that there's a Teflon tape for stainless steel , the label says that it's high density mil spec tape.

Did you use the standard white Teflon tape?

But, what would be the problem, that the tape would solve?
I have absolutely no idea. I don't even know, I'll be honest.

My man, I used dollar store brand.

:neener:We learn by doing.....

My grandmother says something similar :
