Tell me about putting a red dot on a Hi Point

Just picked up fellow THR member Chaim's Hi-Point as a fun little plinker.

It's a mighty accurate little gun even with the open sites but I though that it might be fun to put a red dot on it. Keep in mind that this is a very inexpensive gun.....so, what do you good folks use for a red dot? What type of mount does this thing have on it?

I am quite "scope-challenged" as I've always shot open sites.....thanks in advance!

I've handled one with a $28 BSA red dot from Wal-Mart mounted on it. Worked just fine, and shot 5" groups at 100 yards. Seems pretty reasonable to me - low-cost carbine, low-cost sight, and utter reliability out of both. Might just have to get myself a similar combination... :D

The prefered method of mounting a red dot to a Hi-Point carbine is DUCT TAPE...silver duct tape. Green tape may be used if the carbine is designated as your SHTF weapon.
For mounting a range finding, mildot scope the recommended method is MORE DUCT TAPE.
I still can't figger out why these carbines go bang every time you pull the trigger, or why they are as accurate as they are, or why they are so much bloody fun to shoot.
:D

Maybe I'll mosey on over to Wally World today and pick up a red dot and lot's of duct tape;)

I'll say it again...these things are the most underrated cheap firearm out there. From sandbags....9 shots in one hole from 25 yards....seems pretty fair to me.

they cheap red dots are not free of paralax like the high end ones
you need to aquire a repeatable cheek weld

with an aimpoint
where ever the red dot appears
is where the round goes

Ditto to that, Tuttle.

The aimpoint is completely parallax free, and the EOtech (someone tested this, I believe on AR15.com) is practically parallax free as well. Both are excellent and have rave reviews, usually causing a huge thread on which one is better.

I have no experience with either (or any rifle over .22 caliber or shotgun over 20 gauge for that matter :uhoh: ), but those are the two brands you would be shooting for. And they aren't that high end, compared to a lot of other scopes and optics out there...

I can't tell you how much difference the parallax error has on those cheaper reflex sights, so try them out, I'm sure they are just fine with a good cheek weld.

edited to add: Just checked their website, man those carbines are CHEAP! $200! They are kinda ugly, but hey, as long as it annoys liberals:D

edited again to add: check out aimpoint's site. They have a good 30-40 second video that shows a simplified version of parallax error, as well as some guys shooting M1As and ARs with aimpoints. remember, the object of aimpoints/EOtechs is not precise accuracy, but fast target aquisition.
