Tell me about your S&W 460V

I am trying to decide on a new bigbore revolver, and this one is really calling out to me. Just wondering what you guys think of it. Thanks.

I don't own one but have shot one. VERY accurate and the recoil, while quite PRESENT, is not something that can not be handled with practice. You won't go out and burn 100 rounds of full bore in an hour though.

Also, I understand you can use .454 and .45 Colt in it for 'downloads'. Sounds like a good, versatile firearm to me.

If you are into the 'big stuff', I'd say go for it. Wish I had the $ for one!

Yeah... the lock is an annoyance, but I can live with it... Any idea on if/when they might get rid of it?

and the $1000 price tag is a big chunk to swallow... assuming the gun is very well crafted and will likely last for a century or more with proper maintenance, I don't mind spending the money.

How is the DA trigger pull on this gun? Is it smooth and crisp? or gritty and sloppy?

I have a Performance Center X-Framed .460 and it's trigger pull was a smooth outta the box as my 686 with several thousand rounds thru it. The fit and finish are S&W, nuff said. There are talks of top strap and barrel erosion, but I have seen none on mine yet after 4-500 hundred factory and homerolled shells. The recoil is not as bad as many lead you to think...but make darn sure you and everyone around you has good earplugs. Even during hunting.......outta courtesy I only use mine when I hunt alone.....and don't use the 200grn SSTs for hunting deer. Mine likes the 240 and 300 grainers from Hornady loaded about midway.

I don't use the lock on mine and I don't even know it's there. Fact is, I don't even notice it. It has never failed even under the heavy recoil of the .460 and since I doubt if it will ever be my main carry, the odds of it ever locking up by accident while using it to save my life are realistically quite slim.

why not use the 200 grain sst's for deer? I shot one last year. 110 lb doe, 110 yards. Broadside. Like someone tied a rope around her ankles and yanked it. Stone dead.

I have a 7.5" PC model. 7 3/4" maybe. don't recall. it is almost as fun to shoot as your favorite .22. I had a 500 briefly. Different animal altogether. The .460 is much more fun to shoot. Recoil is not an issue. the incredible noise and fireball might be for some shooters. Mine is crazy accurate. Maybe my favorite gun.
