Tell me about your XD9 Subcompact

Sir, I've been doing the same research and I believe there are a couple of threads active the last day or two that might have some useful information.

I've just about decided to get one, just have to handle one a little more to be sure.

Good luck!
Bill

This is what I now know....

I fully intend to get one soon.

1. Pearce grip makes an extension for them. Good thing.

2. They are unveiling a .40 caliber version soon....great thing.

3. They are reliable, accurate and extremely user friendly. This is from myself actually firing my dads.

4. They have more in common with a Sig than a Glock and more in common with Glock than a 1911.

5. They are not a true double action gun, but instead have a cocked or "primed" striker. The trigger still has to be pulled all the way back like a Glock, but it is much more crisp.

I have one with just over 5600 rounds through it now. I've only had one failure to feed with it when it was brand new. Other then that it's been flawless, very accurate and one of my favorite guns. I shoot it at the range almost every weekend.

In fact it's the one that I trust my life to, as I carry it quite often. I can pick it up in total darkness, feel the little pop up loaded chamber indicator, feel the little pop out striker button telling me it's cocked and know it's ready to go.

I can't recommend it highly enough.--Oneshot

I've got a Springfield XD-9 Sub compact and highly recommend it! It is a flawless gun that is very accurate. The grip is very comfortable and the pistol offers many safety features. The trigger pull is very smooth! And if you happen to be a Lefty, it has an ambidextrous magazine release. Checkout this forum for all the information that you may ever want: HS2000 & SA-XD Talk

Add another to the happy side.

Actually it is my wifes. I got it for her for Christmas. But with approx. 400 rounds through it, it is perfect.

Although not a target pistol, it is accurate enough to make head shots at 25 yards.

One local dealer has four XD pistols in stock. Three full size and one compact.

I was looking at them yesterday and checking out the test targets that came from the factory with each pistol.

The three full size guns had about 2 inch groups and the compact had all the rounds but the first cold shot in one ragged hole. The cold shot made the group about 3/4 inch.

The gun shop owner said that was common with the compact.

American Rifleman politely questioned it's grouping ability.

I just picked one up and have been shooting it. Nice gun, points well and is easy to shoot. But then it should be, a single action gun that is cocked when loaded, with no active safeties. Not exactly the norm in gun design.
But, out of sight, out of mind. The passive safeties seem robust enough.

Bid specs will keep it out of further consideration and recommendation for LE use in my area.

The fact that it is a single action without a manaul safety will keep it from getting many police contracts.

Too many of them tend to have NDs with DAO pistols.

Got one with 400 rounds through it, no failures yet, and it is pretty accurate in my hands, and I am not the best shot by a long shot.

Going to start doing some ammo tests with HPs and then start to carry it soon.

I.G.B.
