I have owned a full size 1911 that I ccw'd, It concealed ok, and I loved the platform which leads me to believe that a commander slide on an officer's frame would be ideal. Colt just came out with a new one taht Talo prepped up, and Dan Wesson has the one I think I truly want. Opinions?

Please tell me why this would not be a good CCW weapon other than the round count, which I am okay with.

It's a perfect CCW platform. Look for the alloy frame and carry with pride. Also a Glock -36 fits the CCO size 45acp. Very nice choice for caliber.size and weight. Also check out the Sig C-3.

I've had a couple of CCOs and agree that it is just about a perfect combination of size, weight, balance, and concealability. I'm carrying an officers model now and it's close but not quite as well balanced as a CCO.

I have an original Colt CCO and it makes an excellent carry pistol. They seem to be pretty rare, I had not heard Colt was making them again.

No reason not to, in my opinion.
One reason not to is one has to push down slide lock lever before firing when the gun is hot and cocked. With more advanced designs and grandpas ole' DA revolver no levers /safeties have to be disengaged prior to firing the gun from the holster.

slide lock lever? are you referring to the safety? I already stated that I am perfectly happy with the 1911 as a platform as a CCW. There must be a reason its been around for 100+ years...

I've often said that if there is a perfect CCW pistol it would be an Officer framed, Commander slided 1911 ... only thing that would be better than a factory .45 would be a custom built one in 10mm.

Between the Colt and the Dan Wesson I lean toward the DW ... but there's nothing wrong with a dancing pony.

Ok. I'm sold. Next Nov 15th I will be getting the Dan Wesson just due to the fact that it has night sights where the Colt does not. I have also heard nothing but good things about these guns and the people that own them. I'm stoked!

I love the 1911 platform. The only concern, and this is a concern with any short-barrel 45, is that the muzzle blast is going to be more than the 5" gov't model. Just something to keep in mind if you ever have to actually use it, particularly at night.
