Okay, here's my update on what's been going on...

Went to the ER yesterday and after spending 3 hours in the waiting room listening to kids cry and scream I finally got to see the doctor. He ran a couple of basic hearing tests, but all I could hear with my left ear was a tuning fork. He referenced me to go to a ENT today, which I just got back from.

I had a couple auditory tests taken where they compared my two ears on hearing ability and word comprehension. Right ear - 100% on both. Left ear - scored a 28% on word comprehension and found that my left ear is basically tone deaf for the majority of auditory frequencies.

This is kind of life-changing news for me. I am an Army cadet and won't be able to receive a commission unless I can pass the hearing test, and at this rate it doesn't look like I will be able to even with the drugs I have been prescribed, and from everything I've heard it's near impossible to get a waiver for hearing.

Guess I should've worn ear muffs.

Don't give up yet. Take the medications religiously, and protect that ear! There's a very good chance there will be at least some improvement.

Indoors the noise is especially bad, as sound tends to bounce off walls and partitions and reverberate, meaning that the noise from one shot might actually "bounce back" toward your eardrum four or five times at a high decibel level, rather than just one.
