Tennessee really is a different planet.

I almost had a job in Oak Ridge after life in the army, but it fell through. What a fantastic area. I ended up in Memphis for a year. Nice state with great people... even if I received my only speeding ticket ever in a speed trap on the interstate heading north into Kentucky on that long, downhill grade. ;)

QuarterBoreGunner.

Tennessee is not another planet.

It is part of a larger country known as "The United States of America."

Perhaps you've even heard of it in San Francisco?

Not likely. The newspapers and politicians would never tell you because you might actually want to escape the Stalinist Gulag by the Bay.

Really.

Such a woman's gun group would not be remarkable at all in Tennessee, or Arkansas, or Mississippi, or Texas, or Missouri, or any number of other states in that foreign country called "The United States of America."

In Arkansas, there is even a TV program about hunting and fishing that always has a woman host who gives women viewers tips about the latest camo fashions, shotgunning techniques, the latest bow hunting equipment and gourmet recipes for wild game.

wow another person from the tri cities....i still call home Elizabethton...even tho i live here in Nashville. I cant wait to go home and do exactly what was said above.....urinate off the back porch and shoot my guns when I go back up there from time to time to see dad

Whoa Hillbilly, down boy, down. I was just trying to tease the poor Yankees a little, and you go and tell'em our wimmin' hunt, fish, wear camo, and have their very own TV shows. Next thing ya know they'll be hankerin' ta move here. It's bad enough they already know Kaylee and Tamara live here, now they'll think there's more just like'em. Now I'm gonna have ta discourage'em. Ya'll know how come crimes are so hard to solve in the South? Cuz the DNA is all the same and their ain't no dental records.

Being a life long Kentuckian, I have to say that Tennessee would be my next choice (maybe tied with Wyoming) as my second choice of residency.

Don't forget, Fellers - Wimin like this sort of thing, and guns is a given here in Tennessee. I've lived in couple of dozen places, maybe more, throughout this Great Country of ours; and have "visited" about a dozen countries at both sides of the pond and in the Americas during the big one and the ones that followed, except the dusty ones in the Middle East (too old, they said), and Tennessee is my favorite. I think Harpethriver said it best, this is God's Country, so don't mess with it, you hear?

Here, an acre of land with nothing on it can go for as high as $100,000, and a 3,500 sq ft house on an acre will cost you at least $400,000, probably closer to $500,000.

:what: :what: :what:

That same house in the SF Bay Area would be a minimum of 1.5 million and probably over 2 million.

BryanP - as a general rule, natives don't visit local sights. I didn't visit Alcatraz until I had an English guest who wanted to go there. The Tennessee State Museum wasn't in its prime when I visited it last December. They had a flood and it wiped out several galleries. The gunsmith shop was still there as was the Civil War displays. The upper galleries were closed though. There's a better Whitworth there now too (the one I saw back around 2001 had been sporterized). Right now I'm trying to get a photograph of their portrait of General Patrick Cleburne (father of the Confederate sharpshooters).

Being a gal from Arkansas who does pee and shoot guns in the yard I have to say the South is a wounderful place. I have a 1600 square foot home on forty acres with the Illinois bayou that runs down the back of the property and a 5 acre pond 30 feet from the front door all for 89,000 Property and personal taxes (including two newer model trucks) 170.00 Wouldn't have a man that did not own guns cause I don't want him asking to use mine!:D I have no responsibility for Bill and Hillary I swear.:fire:

Gary is right - I didn't go to Alcatraz until relatives from Denver came out here, and I never went down Lombard St. until a few other friends visited.

I paid $1.67 for gas here in AR tonight.

TN is ~ 2.5 hrs from me...depends on the amt of orange bbls I have to dodge. Folks in TN have always treated me well. Then again there are a bunch of states that are this way about women and shooting. they have BB-Q, fried chicken, ...home cooking and desserts. It's jsut what you do.

El T...I'd be careful about sushi...especially if it has "Bill's Bait Shop" on the bucket and the "sushi " is still swimming in a plastic bag ... aerated ...you get the idea.:)

Folks shooting ,even just the ladies doing stuff like this - It's just what you do.

NO offense ,but sales reps would visit and make comments about the people being friendly, scenery, shooting, lakes , fishing, price of gas ...and real estate.

" Youze guyz trying to keep this a secret?"

YEP ;)

People always complaining about the price of gasoline. I don't see anyone complaining about the price of bottled water or paying $2.89 for a gallon of milk. Yeah, because cows will kick your ass.

When people ask me if I've ever been to another country, my answer is "Only California." :D ;)

I was born here, so as far as I'm concerned, Tennessee is God's country.
But, if I was born anywhere else, I would probably feel the same way about that state.

We have a pretty cool gun culture, though.

At the church I was attending, when Tennessee's CCW law was passed, the Men's Ministry had the Sheriff's Dept. come and host a free CCW class at the church!

It saved me $50!

45vGary,

Technically I'm not a native - I'm an Air Force Brat, but the point is valid. I was actually born in Merced - just outside of San Francisco - but my dad was only stationed there for 3 months after I was born so I have no memory of the place. However, I've spent more time living here than anywhere else and have no plans to relocate.

Right now I'm trying to get a photograph of their portrait of General Patrick Cleburne (father of the Confederate sharpshooters

Hmm. I'll have to see if I can find that.

:D Kim-if you indeed do live in a rural/wooded area, pee and shoot in the yard , you'll soon discover that a "significant other" should not only have his own guns, but equally or maybe more importantly be prepared to help check for ticks in places you can't see. :neener: Not meaning to be rude or sophomoric, but ticks are one of the drawbacks to living in the rural South.

If I was single man I would be down at that conference trying to find a date. All you single men might want to spend some time in Nashville when that conference is in town.

I really have to make a point of getting out there the next time Olrg has a gig.

And I have to assume the whole 'peeing in the yard' thing is a form of marking your territory?

Ticks are the one thing I dislike. However I spray my yard with some liquid stuff(not gonna say what!) twice a summer and no ticks in the yard. I know what month I'm in by looking at the ticks. First are the medium sized ticks(what is out now) next is what I call the TEXAS ticks--Large with a white star on their back then the worst of them all the infamous seed ticks. I'm really not that far out in the boonies. Live about 4 miles outside a town of 23,000 and about 2.5 miles down a dirt road. I do not ever want the road paved---keeps people away. Can't see my sisters house from mine. She is my next door neighbor. Also I'm at the end of a dead end road.
