I’ll be heading to Texas in a couple of weeks to deliver a rifle that I just built.
The Texas Chrome Heroes Foundation helps Veterans. The people that run the Foundation are a great bunch. They are a bunch of BBQ pit masters that know how to cook and have a good time.
Last year they asked my to build an AR 15 for their auction and invited my to their big BBQ cookoff in El Campo, TX.
The rifle I built was a big hit and sold for several times of what it cost to build.
They contacted me a couple of months ago and invited me to come to this year’s cookoff, and asked me to build another rifle for their auction.

This year I decided to build a rifle with some red components, and have the lower engraved with their logo.
One of my friends, Will, over at Icey Tek, in Tennessee, was going to have a billet lower made for the build, but the guy that was going to make the lower ended up building a complete rifle and donated it for the auction.
I already had the upper built and just needed to build the lower.
The Foundation contacted me and asked if I was too late to have me build the rifle in 300 Blackout because the rifle Will was bringing is in 5.56. I told them that it wasn’t a problem, just hat to order a barrel.
Once the barrel arrived, I rebuilt the upper, picked up a lower at my buddies shop. My buddy did the engraving for free.

I got to work on it the next day.

The only problem I had with the build was the dust cover. I bought a Timber Creek red cover, but it would not stay closed. I tried a Strike Industries cover and had the same problem.
I pulled out one of my extra uppers and the Timber Creek cover fitted perfectly.
The rest of the build went smoothly.
I think they will raise a good bit of money on this rifle.

All I’m waiting on is the Sig red dot to finish off the build, which should be here any day.

Last year I made 12 Cherry shot glasses that I gave away at the event. They were so popular that I decided to make more for this year.
So far I have 25 made, here’s some of them. IMG_8021.jpeg IMG_8040.jpeg

This one is Made from Cherry

This one is made from Purpleheart.

They told me to make sure that I bring Elle, my service dog, with me. She’s a sweetheart and loves to travel.

Awesome gunny

I wasn't expecting you to look like that, you look good but wow. Good to see you're keeping busy on retirement.

You know that's going to raise money having a 5.56 there along with a .300 Blackout. Bunch of people are going to see the second one and have to have it too. Good price on that red dot though.

I lost a good bit of weight the first part of the year. Had hernia surgery January 10. Shortly after waking up in recovery, I started spitting up blood. The Anesthesiologists had torn my throat during surgery. They rushed me into emergency surgery to repair my throat. Then I had another surgery in February to clean up some prostate issues. All that and not being able to do much caused me to loose weight. But I’m putting weight back on and feeding great.
Also, I had cancer back in 2006 and the treatments almost killed me. Before cancer I avaraged 168 lbs, but haven’t been able to get heavier then 150 since.
I’m figuring that the rifle will bring $5,000 or more at the auction.
I had a friend of the Foundation contact me yesterday about build a rifle for an auction for a fire department in west Texas. I just happened to have everything on hand for the build and finished it today. I need to have my FFL ship it to his dealer before I head out next week.
It was just a basic build, nothing fancy.

Very nice work Gunny. That AR is a beauty. If I owned one like that it would show it off every chance I got.
Love those Cherry shots. I was going to say “shot glasses” but they’re not glass. But I guess glass would be appropriate. Need more coffee…😜

Most of all, Thank You for helping out a very worthy cause. 🇺🇲
