Signed it as well.

While I do understand one of the responses about online petitions not being heard, they can make a difference. With enough numbers involved, you may get enough other interests involved to get things rolling. It's not the ultimate tool, but a useful tool and a good start. I have personally experienced the usefulness of these type of petitions in just the last few years.

Long story short, the govt of the island I live on was trying to close our only airport, claiming it was unsafe (truth be told, they wanted to develop it for real estate purposes). What started out as a small grassroots organization to save our airport and 200 plus signatures turned out to receive over 200K signatures from former residents, tourists, and business owners demanding an accounting of what was actually going on with the project. Four years later, we still have our airport and they are now getting ready to expand the facility and upgrade flight operations. While we didn't "make" this all happen, the online petition was a great way for us to spread the news about this and get more people involved.
