I bought my first handgun today! Yea!! :D It's a used Daewoo DH40 in great condition(especially considering the price). Quite happy with it so far, but I also havn't been able to shoot it yet.

Anyway, I go to drop the gun off at the Campus Police because god forbid we have it in the dorms in case someone tries to break in with a knife(mind you this has actually happened in my hall not 20 feet away from where I was sleeping, thank god nothing serious occured.) But on to the real point of the point.

All's fine and dandy, the officers suprised that Daewoo made guns, and he comes to ask, "Who bought the gun for you?" Clearly, I bought if for myself, otherwise it would be a straw purchase(BTW, I'm 18). I say I did from a private party, and he get's this look on his face as though to say 'Ugh Oh!'. He resonds that I cannot do that, and it is illegal to have a handgun if you're under 21.

I was somewhat scared:uhoh: , but I half expected this misconception considering that I have run into it at a couple gun shows so I camly tell him that "With all due respect, I double checked the law before buying it, and that only applies to purchases from licensed dealers, and I bought it from a private party." and to my relief he replied "Private parties, eigh? Alright."

All in all, I'm quite happy, got a great deal, met a reasonable officer, and I can't wait to shoot it.:p

You'll love your Daewoo if it's anything like mine! Easy to shoot and dead reliable. Not a target gun, but plenty good combat accuracy. It is now protecting my daughter and her husband.

I'm going to USF, it's a great school and and our football team is highly underrated(you see our win over 7th ranked West Virgina). I can't wait to go to the bowl game hopefully it's in Alabama or somewhere close.

Reasonable that they didn't hassle you or reasonable that he actually knew the law?

He didn't go above and beyond anything other than doing his job.

But, congrats on your new pistol!

When I was living in the dorms at USF I stored my firearms with the on-campus police, they were very helpful and were always willing to retrieve them for me when I went target shooting or carried off campus. In fact, I have to say that they were among the best police officers as a group I have come in contact with over the years.

*Of course I had to google a Daewoo DH40, very interesting.
