I have to say - whomever came up with the name for THR and designed it, definitely had their thinking cap on.

THR is both work and University friendly.

By that I mean - try surfing Glocktalk in a University library. Every time the page loads you have "GlockTalk" in big letters with a BIG picture of a gun. After a while either at work or at school that can make you feel a little paranoid, like, "How long is it going to be before news helicopters are overhead and police officers show up to start asking questions?" - yeah, it probably won't happen, but these days you can never be too careful.

The THR default theme with the American flag logo and all is perfect. It makes surfing THR in otherwise PC-sensitive environments much easier.

So thanks to whomever is responsible!

Uh, why would they do that?

it probably won't happen, but these days you can never be too careful.

Careful of what? I've never heard of anyone at a job or university being taken down by a SWAT team for going to a gun-related website.

I've never understood this desire for people to only discuss guns behind closed doors in quiet whispers. I suppose it may be fun to pretend that you are part of some secret gun society that is so powerful that merely going to the websites will get you on "the list".

If you flip through a gun magazine a bookstore, do you first slip it inside of "The New Yorker" just in case someone happens to look at what you may be perusing?

While I see no need to flaunt gun ownership with t-shirts and stickers, I feel no need to hide my interests. There's nothing of which to be ashamed. While I could see one not wanting to look as though they are screwing around at work, I can't imagine being afraid of repercussions in a library.

I'm happy to tell friends that I am a proud GO, but total strangers don't need to know.

It's just like how having a CCW should be on a need-to-know basis only.

It just can make things more difficult than they need to be.

The layout of the flag would make it easier to be on here during class. I would never do that though ;) But I am glad that I could.

No, but...

Careful of what? I've never heard of anyone at a job or university being taken down by a SWAT team for going to a gun-related website.

This is the only one that I can get into at work. I think because it a ".org" that is dosen't get filtered.

Jorg, I don't think anyone is saying they are afraid or they are being secretive. They are saying that either their filters would prohibit access, or that co-workers or classmates would be frightened and cause a scene. This website avoids those problems.

this site is blocked on the computers at work:mad:

but i love getting on here at home, as a noob, and learn more about this great hobby every day

Pretty much every firearm or Airsoft site was blocked on the College network.

Mind you, every Tuesday, we ended up in the Network Lab, which had it's own seperate Internet connection.

Probably a good thing that our teacher used to post here.

I'm on a Nannyed up computer right now. Its great to be able to go to a mature good natured site about my favorite hobby.

Yep. Thanks, Oleg!

BTW, if you're library or college ISP blocks out sites, try www dot boredatschool dot com.

I dunno, I frequently looked at pictures of guns at the computer lab that I frequented at my university. My generaly attitude was that if my classmates could look at myspace and facebook pictures of themselves and their buddies in varying states of sobriety 24/7, I could look at gun pictures. Also, it helps that I look like I will snap the neck of any fool that tries to shut me down.

Oleg Volk is the proprietor, but several others do the twigging with the software and hardware part. Oleg created the site after Rich Lucibella suspended The Firing Line a few years back.

Oleg and I were both moderators at TFL, where our staff motto (created by Rich) was to always take "The High Road." When we were searching for a name for Oleg's new forum, I suggested www.thehighroad.com. Oleg liked it, but it was taken, so he registered www.thehighroad.org.

So hey-- you're welcome! (heh.)

Thanks Matt and Oleg!

and to whoever did the twigging with the software and hardware!

Our Host

And then there's Derek Zeanah.

The guy who provides the physical platform and the expertise that keeps us running.

Quite a crew.

They are the bestest.

My college doesn't filter anything. I've gone on many different gun websites and none of them get blocked. This is by far the best forum i've ever seen and is currently the only one i post on aside from the forum on the gun range that i shoot at's website.
