I have been asking all sorts of questions lately on the reloading forum. Questions like why keep working up, what powders for 9mm, can I shoot reloads out of a Glock and stuff like that. I found out what works really well for HP-38 pushing a 115g FMJ bullet. I tried 4.5g shooting 10 rounds off a sand bag rest and my groups were around 3.5". I next tried 4.7g my groups dropped to just under 1.5". I steeped up to 4.9g my groups opened back up to 2.75". I found my load for my G17, 4.7g of HP-38, 115g FMJ R/N Montana Gold bullet with a Winchester primer.
I want to thank everyone that has helped me on this forum. I really feel like I am making progress with reloading. Now I have a recipe that I can make hundreds of rounds and be confident with them. I am going to rework my Unique recipe, because I don't feel I had a full understanding about working up a load when I was working with it. That's all I got a big THANK YOU to everyone.

Mr 3180 -
If I may speak for the members here, you're certainly welcome. It's a joy to see someone grow in the sport and enjoying the hobby. So your questions are merely the currency of our trade.

If I may recommend 2 totally unsolicited comments....
• In my mind you've simply found the right neighborhood. Now go back and sand bag with 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8gr and fine tune. There might be some extra "juice" waiting for you there.

• Most modern 9's are optimized for 124gr bullets. Try some jacketed or plated 124's next time and see if you don't get further improvements.

All the best!

Like I said before, HP-38/W231 is a good all around powder and works well in the 9mm. I'm glad you found a load you like for your pistol. You are hooked now Sir and it's a sickness there's no cure for. (not that I'm looking for one!! LOL)

BTW, I'm also a big fan of the 124gr bullet in the 9mm.

i like hp38 too. its my main pistol powder. i also use tite group from time to time, but i always end up pouring hp38.
