Hello,

I know there is a holster section, but I am hoping this is specific enough to revolvers to get a pass?

Is there a style name for the iconic leather out of waist band hip holster warn by sheriffs in movies/shows? Take the show Stranger Things or Walking Dead for example? The revolver drops an inch or two from the belt, the leather looks (but isn't) woven on the panels, possibly with a thumb break strap?

I am a proficient user of Google, and all I get is concealment types of OWB holsters. Not it. I'm looking for the iconic "Sheriff" holster.

Thanks all for your patience. I'm a younger collector who is turning towards revolvers.

Always thought it was the Jordan or Border Patrol holster.

First I thought of was a Tom Threepersons holster, with basket weave stamping.

This one is what I had in mind:

But believe the Jordan River Holster, or Border Patrol Holster is what you are indeed thinking about.

There are 2 styles that could be what you are looking for. They are the Jordan Border Patrol and a Swivel style duty holster in basket weave pattern. You can sometimes find them on EBAY. Years ago I bid on a Safariland swivel duty holster and got it for just $10 plus shipping. The holster had never been used and was still in its original plastic pouch.

Along with Jordan, Border Patrol, and swivel, look up Patton style holsters.

Those shouldn't be to hard to find for a decent price, I think every cop that carried a K Frame had one. The basket weave might be a little hard to find.

Iggy beat me to it! The Brill style of holster is what I always envision when someone mentions the leather gear of "old lawmen". It is not what I used on duty but it is what I use now.

Thanks for the link to Red River Holsters. They've got some very nice looking rigs there.

This is what I always thought of as the classic police revolver holster:

Note the drop and the way it protects the bottom of the trigger guard. It is what I remember seeing cops in Milwaukee using when I was a kid.

I think the outfit making such stuff is called Old El Paso Saddlery or something similar. The problem with open carry rigs is if one wants to follow first commandment of open carry they have to dress in all black or all brown. Sort of like Brown Shirt or SS officer neither of which are particularly in vogue. Just remember what happened to Prince Harry when he dressed up as SS officer for Halloween party. Bad choice, but if he dressed as NKVD officer everyone would say he looked adorable. Funny isn't it?

Really? Didn't know there were commandments relative to open carry.
