If I hear one more media outlet allow (or promote) another "expert" to spew falsehoods about the RIVER of AUTOMATIC ASSAULT RIFLES from the US to Mexican drug cartels, I'm going to have a heart attack.

On a radio report this morning with emphasis on "Latino" issues: some university professor claims that automatic weapons are almost freely available at the corner drug store in the US.

No one, and I mean NO ONE is challenging the "evidence" that the ATF and others are presenting. I'm at the point of demanding that the ATF publish the number of pre-'86 "automatic assault rifles" vs post-'86 that have ended up being confiscated in the drug "war" to see where this "river" has its beginning.

Sorry. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I had to vent. I am sure that weapons made in the US and purchased by US citizens have made their way into the hands of drug cartels. The answer is not infringing upon the Constitutional rights of US citizens. One of the answers is border enforcement.

We'll spend billions helping overseas governments in the Middle East train and equip the military and enforce security in their own countries, but when a neighboring country can't control domestic drug lords and crime our answer is to restrict our own citizens?

Good Morning Neighbor!

Dont worry about those who wish to flood the airwaves with alot of fluff.

Focus on what you can do and do the best you can.

I too get riled with some of the bad things pulled by the media, my solution is to disconnect them from time to time and take a break. Sometimes wife and I would watch other shows besides Fox, Cnn or any of the others.

I liked your line about machineguns availible on every corner. That would be something indeed.:cuss:

Actually, the ATF never said there were automatic weapons flowing. I can't find the link to the article but there was something mentioned to the effect of: "Most of the automatic weapons come from South America but we're concerned about .50 cals and handguns coming in from the US". Again, I can't find a link, but it's actually not the ATF spewing the rhetoric, it's anti-gun politicians.

Hungry Seagull has it right...sometimes it helps to tune out.

There was a political cartoon in the local paper this morning showing a dump truck unloading weapons and a couple watching with "Mexico" on the front of their shirts. The man says, "Maybe we should build a wall"....typical media-

It's hard to argue that US sold firearms are crossing the border in massive numbers. How many shipments do they need to intercept before you'll admit there is a problem?

The answer has nothing to do with guns though, as this is a drug problem.

The recreational drug user in the US has blood on their hands with this one.

JM,

This is just another example of the fact there is not source of true unbiased reporting in America. I like many on this board am a member of the GOP but to be fair even our outlets of information are slightly skewed. The media in America has made a conscious decision to only report for ratings and not to report facts. nobody is questioning Mr Obamas Trillion dollar spending spree! If Mr Bush spent 100billion he would be under fire from every major news network other then Fox. It’s a sad ridiculous day when you read posting like yours. We shouldn’t worry about such bad reporting but its been a daily occurrence since 2004. If they only knew the steps we all have to go through to purchase a firearm. Well at least when Obamas bans go into place and the autos continue to get into the hands of criminals we can say “told you so”

Many of the ws media folks are gun-knowledge deficient and they tend to get semi-auto and auto mixed up. They also do not do their research and don't realize that automatic weapons haven't been imported for many years.
This fits into the anti-gun agenda.
But, we are our own worst enemies also. We haven't policed ourselves and have closed our eyes when we saw things that may have been illegal that we should have reported.
I live near the border and have become much more observent and watch who is buying at year sales, etc.
Demanding the existing laws be enforced and assisting with that when necessary by a simple phone call will take much of the wind out of the sales of the anti-gun folks.

It's funny that the media didn't give a crap about what was happening in Mexico a few years ago. It was a non-issue that only got attention from time to time.

Now that it has become a new handle for a new AWB all of a sudden Mexico becomes a top priority: "Mexico is in flames! We have to help the poor Mexicans! The cartels are out of control!"

What a coincidence...

The Media can go shove it sometimes.

Ive laid eyes on Mexico over the years in different locations. For example you had El Paso over here along the Interstate and maybe a yea mile or so over to the left heading west around the riverbend is Mexico and thier town.

To cross into mexico into the very small trade zone where you transferred cargo that is marked for import into the USA, you were to get the feeling you go back in time to 1950. Life is different down there. About 1 PM or so everything stops for a long nap time for a few hours during the hot part of the day. Then everyone gets back to work until sunset.

Once sun is down, those who are good will retire to thier homes and fix dinner for family.

I did what rbernie suggested, and interestingly the topic was "drugs/crime/gun." Considering that Kay Hagan said she "supported the second amendment" I am quite disappointed that drugs, crimes, and guns are grouped together like that but they are appropriate enough for this topic.

Kay,

Many of your fellow Democrats are spreading a lie that goes something like this:

"Automatic weapons are freely available in the USA, and this is greatly contributing to Mexican cartel violence."

This is false on at least one level: there are NO freely available automatic weapons in the USA, because of the 1986 machine gun ban.

Therefore I want you to demand proof, publicly, next time you hear this sort of atrocious falsehood! Ask "Please provide a list of these machine guns that are going to Mexico." Your colleagues will be able to do so IF machine guns are being exported to Mexico because there is very tight regulation on US machine guns - any stolen machine gun is certain to be reported.

Second, and related, you ran in support of the Second Amendment. I do not believe the Second Amendment is about hunting rights; I believe it is about law-abiding citizens keeping the type of weapon they feel they need to protect themselves and family.

Barack Obama and Eric Holder are trying to push a new Assault Weapons Ban, and Obama falsely claimed he supported the Second Amendment.

Now is the time to show your true colors, Kay. Support the Second Amendment in North Carolina!

Thank you.

Conwict,

Do you mind if I change the name and mail that letter to many of my local officials?

RE: unplugging, I did that. I haven't owned or regularly watched a television for over ten years. I even recently discontinued my home internet service. I get basic news through radio or online. If I'm seeing it, "they" must be flooding the various channels with it.

What makes me angry is the complete lack of fact-checking. The figures are all always "some evidence."

Keep this focused on the guns, folks. Sociopolitical commentary will get this thread locked just like the dozen that preceeded it on the Mexico situation.

So why not drop a note to your CongressCritters asking them to demand this proof?
Great Point. All the news reports I've seen on this state clearly that "it's a fact that.........."
It is NOT a fact. It is an allegation, and an unproven one at that. Unless they (the government) can show us a list of the confiscated firearms, including number of weapons, manufacturer, serial #'s and proof of the origination initially, AND case #'s of pending charges or filed charges relating to any illegal activity associated with the transfer of said weapons under CURRENT law, I "call BS".
It is not something we can just "tune out". This is a nefarious conspiracy to deprive us of our 2nd Ammendment rights. This is NOT a tinfoil hat issue. It is real, and unless we get very vociferous about it, we will suffer the consequences. It is time to stop taking the government and the media at their word. Their word isn't worth a plug nickle nowadays.

grim:

Let me know if/when you want me to PM you Obama's & Hillary's gun-rap. I "found" it. Can't tell ya who wrote it, but I can give you permission to share it. Just PM me if you want a copy.

You are not going to challenge this administration with facts when the agenda is to steal your guns. The truth may be heard but the end product is what they want and will do anything to get.

I am that one.

No one, and I mean NO ONE is challenging the "evidence" that the ATF and others are presenting

It's time for each and every one of us to be that One. When we see a lie being perpetuated, get the facts, assemble them in an articulate manner and then present them to the media, politicians etc. and demand the truth be told. The time for flacid tuning out is OVER!
This 'the U.S. is flooding the Mexican cartels with heavy weapons" crap is so easy to debunk, even a cave man can do it. Git on it. Challenge it everywhere.

So which US civilian gun shop keeps selling all these hand & 40mm grenades which flank most of the 'US Guns in Mexico' pictures? :)
