The polymer PM9? Maybe I got the name wrong, but it's beginning to look pretty good to me. (I'm trying NOT to look.) Some seem to have a silver colored slide and some are all black. Are the "bugs" all worked out of this little pistol yet? Some of the comments on The Firing Line scared me off. Mostly it was Kahr customer service that sounded so bad.

I have two. The first one I got had a few FTE's the first couple hundred rounds. Both currently function flawlessly.

I tried one at the range a couple weeks ago. Nice little gun but way too small for me. It felt like it was going to fly out of my hand every time I fired it. But it went "Bang!" every time and seemed reasonably accurate.

I bought a PM9 with the stainless slide late last year, it's my most carried pistol. It had some problems early but Kahr made it right. I haven't heard complaints about recent Kahrs polymer framed pistols like I did the earlier ones.

I've shot +P Federal, Gold Dot, Golden Saber ammo through mine and all are very easy to control with no discomfort. I've ordered some Cor Bon Power Ball to try also. :D

Kahr also recently released a PM40 in .40 cal, I haven't tried that one though.

150 rounds into the new PM9.
Not one problem.
Most accurate out to 30 ft.
Probably as far as any belly gun needs to go.

A bit OT but I rented a 40S&W model when they first appeared and it recoiled a bit sharp for me.

Rent one and tell me how you like it.

Best summer gun I've ever owned. Carry it in my right pocket in Dockers, shorts or Royal Robbins in a simple insdie the pocket holster I made. I have had alot of problems shooting +P+ in it though. Beat the snot out of it in less than 100 rounds. Search around this forum, there have been several discussions on it, mine included. I settled on the Winchester white box 115gr HP. Cheap at WalMart, lots of practice, runs flawlessly now over 500 rounds. But, since winter has finally come to Texas I can wear a jacket and theres a really nice "S" serial number Mod. 58 on my right hip....had to throw that in since I'm posting right behind M58!!!

I have put about 400 rounds through mine so far. Most has been "ball" ammo. About 20 HP's or so. I have not had one malfunction so far. Smallest 9mm or 40 S&W on the market I do beleive.

I've fired one belonging to a fellow board member a number of times now, and quite frankly I'm pretty impressed.

His is the MP9, the small one that you're talking about. I have a K9, and it's a dream to shoot, so I naturally assumed that the much ligher, thinner gripped and shorter butt MP9 would be more of a chore to shoot.

It is, but only just barely.

If one presents itself to me at a decent price, I may just have to buy it.

I don't have a PM9, but I have had an E9 (a seldom seen "economy" version of the K9) since 1999. It has been pretty good to me, except for the front sight falling off! (The front sight is one of the major differences between the E9 and the others.) I also had the ejection port lowered to reduce the number of ejected cases thrown in my face. When I talked to the Kahr guy on the phone, he was very professional, and I got the gun back in about 10 days. Again, this was in 1999.

Even this one would surely be less of a chore to shoot than a small-frame revolver, especially in .357 Magnum. I would bet that if you chronographed full-power .357s from a 2-2.25" barrel and 9mms from the Kahr's 3" barrel (about 2.25" of actual rifled bore), the velocities would be pretty close. And the 9mm has far less kick and roar. My Ruger SP101 is easy to shoot with .38 Special loads, not too bad with 110-grain .357s, but a bit of a chore with full-power 125-grain .357s.

Not even close.

OK. However, that AE 9mm, as with most of the generic loads, is pretty mild, not to mention being range/practice ammo unsuitable for self defense. How about some of the hotter nines, e.g., Speer Gold Dot +P? How do those compare? (Maybe I should just buy a chronograph. ;) )

Thanks for the replies guys...

I'm so close to buying three or four new handguns, that I can smell them like fresh baked bread. It seems that the minute I bought a new gunsafe, my "gotta have a new gun" gauge went off the scale. People like Marko (that P7 picture), Tamara (that S&W collection) and Oleg (ANY Oleg Volk photograph) push me beyond the limits of my endurance.:D I "need" a .357 mag wheelgun~S&W 686, 2.5 incher (and it WILL probably be next), but my gunshop has it located right BESIDE those neat little Kahrs. Plus, I'm hearing the whispers of that Springer Mil-Spec. ("Pssst, Will--Take me home".) Now, let's talk about rifles. :)

KR
P.S. One more thing. My gunshop owner lets me fondle what I'm thinking about buying to my hearts content. Thus, I'll be able to field strip the Kahr. Is there anything especially bad I should look for that might cause problems later? The last time I took one apart, I checked the slide rails and they seemed perfectly flat and straight. Anything else??

I also got a Kydex Fist holster. Now if Missouri doesn't loose the right to carry. Anyway, you completely forget that you have this gun on. It will by my back up gun. I also have a pocket holster for it.

That's all very well and good, but have you actually fired one or two of these bad boys out of a snub?? I have and it was a ...well...PAINFUL experience!! After the second round, I had to stop because my hand was bleeding!! I could not shoot for two weeks!!
No more .357 MAG in the snub for me!! Thank you very much. ;)

Now, as touching the real reason for this post, yeah, it sounds like they have, judging by the lack of postings complaining about the gun.

I , as many of you well know, have the MK9 Elite. It serves as my mouse gun. I trust it and I would think that you could trust it's polymer sibling as well.

I think I got my PM9 around March, but I would have to do a search here.
I've got over 800 rounds through it.
Several boxes of jhp, but mostly fmj.
1 failure to feed because I hadn't fully seated the mag.
1 other one with a hollow point early on.
That's it. No other problems at all.
Seems to really like Speer Gold Dot, 124gr, +P.

My wife shot it for the first time Saturday. She was very accurate with it, and liked it a lot.
We also fired about 25 rounds of 158gr fmj through her .38 S&W Centennial.
That gun hurts! (And I've added Pachmeyer grips to it!)
The PM9 is much more pleasant to shoot than her Airweight .38.

I love my gun, and it is close to being an ideal pocket gun.
If your dealer will let you strip the gun, just look it over carefully.
No odd places where the polymer seems to be missing, no bent or warped parts.
No rough places in the polymer frame.

I think you'll be very pleased with a PM9.

Thanks Mini14 & other guys...

Seems like the initial problems have been addressed. It's a pretty expensive little 9MM. I don't want to go through the "heartbreak of malfunction" on a pistol that costs so much.
Mini14~Why so many FMJ's?

KR

I have the P9 which is mild to shoot and very accurate. That said, I think that muzzle flip would be a bear with the PM9. Come out and shoot my P9 and see if that's small enough for you.

Why so many FMJ's?
Fmjs = full metal jacket rounds, or "the cheap stuff Walmart sells".
Fmj is much cheaper to shoot than hollow point rounds.

The 100 round "value pack" of Winchester ammo that Walmart sells is all I shoot in this gun besides some occasional carry rounds.
The PM9 loves that ammo!
Eats it all day long, and is very accurate with it.
The jhp that I carry in the gun, Speer Gold Dot, 124 gr. +P is a hot round.
Though I got these at a price that was almost as cheap as fmj rounds, I don't think a steady diet of +P ammo would be good for any gun.

And I guess the other part of "Why so many FMJ's?"
is that I like to shoot, and the PM9 is fun to shoot.

Mine was $550 before tax, and it may be the most expensive handgun that I have ever bought.
I won't pay that much for a gun unless I am going to spend a lot of time with it. Carrying and shooting.
And, it needs to work.

This one does.

I just don't know how I can turn this deal down.

Anyone have an opinion regarding the "Black Diamond" coating on the stainless slide?

Thanks,
KR
