The grain on mine looked awful IMHO. The few coats of golden brought out the contrast and shocked me. I only put 3 coats of Tru Oil on the back and 4 on the front. They match somewhat.

I shot the snot out of today. Ran through my whole stash except for one box. But I have a little brass and a couple hundred of these:


Broke in that new (to me) NRA Edition MkII. That's my first MkAnything. Shoots great and I ran through a few hundred rounds of 22. I need to clean it up. My buckmark can shoot all day with different folks shooting with me, burns through 1000+ with no issue. But the ruger started letting me down towards the end of a 325 round box. A little disappointed, but extremely pleased overall. I'll clean it up and throw some frog lube on there...the previous owner may have used low quality lube.

I'm honestly not huge on ports but I wanted one in each caliber and these were what I found firs. The 44 mag is in the never sell corner.

I purchased a 1895 SBL for the same reason (or lack thereof). I now have the rifle should I ever go on a safari for big game.

I've owned more than two dozen Marlins (not at the same time) and still NEED more...

Can I join your club. I have had a weakness for Marlin lever action rifles for as long as I can remember. My Son and I have several in different calbiers, and truley enjoy shooting them. And Old Lever Gun is just hard to beat and we really favor Marlins. It was a sad day when Marlin sold, I still have trouble excepting the fact that the Marlin company that I had all ways known and was so proud of is no longer. Is there something I am suspose to do to join and can we talk about other calibers than 30-30`s. Such as the 45-70, 444, 35 REM, and 45LC, 44MAG, and 357MAG all in Marlins of course.

The_Next_Generation: Thank You: I have always had a true love affair with Lever Actions Rifles and especialy Marlins. My Son and I are just real died in the wool Lever Action and prefer Marlins. I might as well tell you guys I am extremely limited on what I can do on my computor, some times I have trouble turning it off and on. And at this time have not a clue how to take any pictures. I would like to know how to do that for my Son and I are very proud of Marlins we own. So I take it that I can talk about my 45-70 and 444 along with other Lever Marlins other than our 30-30`s. So I don`t have to do anything special to join The 336 Club. Thanks Again:

Nematocyst: I think my Son has one. Or at least I think that was what my Wife got him for X-MAS a couple of years ago. But I would have to seen it for a while. I am not a very high tech person, and I am dangerous with a screw driver. But I have had a Love Affair with Lever Action Marlins, since I was a teenager. And I turned 69 yrs old last OCT. My Son and I have a few and we are very proud of them and enjoy hunting with them and just plain old plinking with them. My Son likes the short barrel rifles and I like the long barrel rifles, It gives us something to argue about on the drive, to go hunting Pigs or what ever we are going after. He has been my hunting partner since he was Potty Trained, and my best friend as well.

cpt-t, I've always said it is harder to find a good hunting partner than it is to find a good wife. You are a lucky.

My favorite guys to hunt with have always been a generation or two ahead of me. I wish I had the mindset I have now back then, I would have learned a lot more. I hope I can pass on some of their knowledge to the generations behind me. The hard part is convincing them they don't need to be plugged into their phones when we're out in the woods. Listening to music or updating facebook while in the woods is incomprehensible to me.

Based on the scores turned in back when we had the 39 club shooting matches (many of those are also 336 members) I'd welcome the company. We'll probably run out of food before we run out of ammo. Hopefully someone has a good zombie recipe...

CPT, I hear you. Good enough for us that you're here. We're glad for that.

Listening to music or updating facebook while in the woods is incomprehensible to me.

That's two of us, bud. I'm lucky that out here where I live now (read, 10 million miles from the cell phone reception area, or at least it may as well be, because I get zero bars this far in), I suspended my cell service while I'm here. So, when I walk down in the meadow and woods along the river, I don't even carry a cell.

Fortunately, up here, that applies to just about everywhere I go hiking or backpacking and stuff (not often enough, so far), so ... no Faceplant updates, just paying attention to a beautiful landscape!

The second pic below is on the river about a half mile outside my back door. The first pic is on the trail I built to get down there, and the little foot bridge I built to get across that brook. Wish I'd had my 336 this year, I could have hunted deer in the back yard (I have access to about 75 acres here, and there's a couple of hundred undeveloped across the river). Hopefully next year. Things are kind of looking up for me now, but how many times have I said that in the last two years?

Speaking of hunting in one's back yard, my wife & I just spotted at least 15 deer eating the dry corn we leave out in our back yard, we live on 91 acres. My Marlin 375 would be perfect

I'm a member on ESEE Forums. There's a lever action thread going on, so I joined, and posted a link to the club.

I just read this post there, in which the poster wrote this:

It is easy to distinguish the new Remington made Marlins from the older Marlin models. The older Marlin model have the initials JM stamped on the barrel near the receiver. The Remington made guns have RLM stamped into the barrel near the receiver.

First time I've heard that.

Nemo, it for the most part is correct. Remington produced marlins mostly have REM barrel stamps, located on the barrel near the reciever, they also mostly have MR##### serial numbers, and posibily made in Kentucky?? i cant remember where the barrels are made/stamped with on location.
Like i said though mostly, some of the 09 guns that were put out used older marlin parts but asymbled after the cutover with different techs. hope that helps

All the Remington guns I've seen are stamped "REM," I hunt for the JM stamped guns with or without the safety. The safety can always be removed.

My first rifle was a 336C chambered in 35 Rem. I bought that back in 78 and still have it. Harvested many deer with it living in Pa.
Paid $89 dollars for it and it was worth every penny

I bought a 336C in the base store when I was discharged from the Navy in 1964.It was a 30-30 and was my only deer rifle for 25 years.I took 16 deer in Pennsylvania at ranges up to 150 yards.It did not have the hammerblock safety and my grandsons are starting to shoot.So,I bought a Ruger bolt action .243.

I've moved 4 times in 3 months on top of 12 times in 3 years.
Much of that 3 years was lived in my own private hell.

Settled in for now in a nice place.

My beloved 336 still in storage on the west coast.

Still, I'm living within 50' of the Atlantic Ocean at the moment, so it's all good.

I just want to get my 336 here and get it chopped to 17".
