The 44 Mag has arrived

Generally no problem to date them. Buy them a box of ammo, pick them up and take them to the range, and they are more than willing to do it again the next time you want to go. Much easier to date than women. I would say they may be a touch harder to date than men because men are happy with eating just about anything provided the end result is satisfactory. The revolver probably would at least be appreciative of the right ammo to eat.

Nicely done Sir!!!

Serial # N861732 Can anyone give me a date for this serial #. It'd be much appreciated.

Post a message on the revolver thread about serial numbers of S&W revolvers and most folks will come back with a reply.

Or, if you are into S&W revolvers, get an issue of "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson". A good reference to have on S&W guns.

If I remember correctly, revision 4 is the most recent edition.

Beautiful gun.
With the short barrel/reduced weight, you will know when it goes off.
Eleven hundred feet/sec loads will be more fun than full house.
Again, that is a beauty.

Been wanting a like new blued 4in for a very, very long time. I always have problems dating S&W handguns.

give them your serial number and they will look it up and tell you when it was built.

That is one beautiful M29-2. After the movie Dirty Harry came out, a "Dirty Harry" pistol was just about impossible to find. The demand stripped supply for years.

I'd date it late 1981, early 1982. Barrel is still pinned, cylinder still recessed. I have a M25-5 with SN N8242xx which dates to 1981. You've got a beauty Did you get the box and accessories, or just the gun?
