My wife is a not a gun person at all. But she always tries to get me shooting supplies for my birthday, Christmas, etc... This last Christmas I opened a present and was surprised to find a bottle of Birchwood Super Blue. She thought it was some kind of fancy gun lube. I immediately thought of an old LE trade in S&W model 10 I bought a few years ago. It's in good shape but the finish has had a rough life. I watched and read some tutorials on how to apply a cold blue and gave it a try. I think it turned out better than I expected. The finish still has the look of a vintage working revolver but it doesn't look like it's been sand blasted anymore.

Very good job! I've found B/C Ultra Blue gives a deeper color.
I am an Oxpho Blue fan, but a bottle of this

showed up in the shop recently, and I had a Savage barrel nut come in "in the white", so I thought I'd try it. I am amazed at how quickly I was able to match the rest of the gun's blue with it. As I do with all 'cold' bluing solutions, I heated the piece with a propane torch, just enough to chase all the moisture out before applying the blue.
