This story succinctly punches holes (large holes -- about 12-gauge ) in the anti's favorite lies: That guns in the home are dangerous to the homeowners, and that loaded guns around children inevitably lead to tragic accidents. It even reinforces one of the main reasons most Americans are demanding tighter border security.
Of course, staunch anti self-defense zealots would point out that had Patricia not been armed, there would have been only one victim killed instead of two! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
I've actually met people like that. And I have only one thing to say to them: In the immortal words of Captain Hook, "Mere words cannot express me utter contempt for ya!"
Illegals picked the wrong house and the wrong kid to rob
From the American Police Beat, July 2007 (P.14)
For years there’s been a debate among Americans about whether or not having a firearm in the home will make people safer. In Montana recently, an eleven-year-old girl just put that argument to bed.
Two illegal aliens, Raphael Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26 probably thought the robbery they were about to do was a cakewalk.
There was no one in the house except 11-year-old Patricia Harrington. Her father had left his daughter in the two-story home while he ran some errands.
But the bad guys forgot at least two things. First off, they were in Montana. Secondly, Patricia has been a clay-shooting champion since she was nine.
According to police reports, Patricia was in her upstairs bedroom when the two men broke through the front door of the residence. She quickly ran to her father’s room and grabbed his 12-gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.
Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor where the young girl was, only to be the first to catch a near point-blank blast of buck shot from the eleven-year-old’s knee-crouch aim.
He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals. When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street, where he bled to death.
Police later determined that Resindez was armed with a stolen .45 caliber handgun that he took from another home invasion robbery.
That victim, 50-year-old David Burien, was not so lucky -- he died from stab wounds to the chest.
Second Amendment advocates say the incident provides a valuable lesson to people who are worried about home invasions -- that being armed could save your life.
